John den Hollander launched film distribution company Echoes on the Map last year, with the aim of releasing four to five socially engaged titles annually. He debuted with the documentary The Day Iceland Stood Still (2024) and subsequently released Sunfish (& Other Stories on Green Lake) (2025). Cutting Through Rocks (2025), winner of the audience award at IDFA, will follow this coming autumn. The Sea (2025) is scheduled for early 2027. Den Hollander also distributes in Portugal and Slovenia, where he sees more market potential. Within the Netherlands, he finds it easier to gain a foothold outside the Randstad than in major cities.
