The Dutch audiovisual sector grew in revenue from 10.7 to 11.9 billion euros between 2022 and 2024, but added value fell from 3.8 to 3.1 billion euros. This is according to research by IDEA Consult for the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW). Streaming services dominate the market; cinemas and film theaters saw their market share drop from nearly 50 to less than 20 percent. Productions are becoming more expensive due to inflation, energy prices, and Fair Pay agreements. The Netherlands lacks fiscal incentives that generate more than 30 percent additional financing capacity elsewhere. The researchers recommend better indexation of public funding and research into fiscal instruments for private capital.
