On Saturday, November 20, 2010, in Amsterdam, the European Cultural Foundation (ECF) and the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) are organizing the talk show Doc Next.

Doc Next is a special IDFA program about a new generation of young European documentary filmmakers who zoom in on their surroundings using new media technologies. Their short films will be shown on the big screen for the first time during IDFA.

Young documentary filmmakers take center stage in the Doc Next talk show. Festival organizers, broadcasters, and documentary experts use their films and stories to discuss the challenges and opportunities of user-generated content. How can DIY documentaries inspire various media domains and contribute to public opinion in Europe? How can young storytellers help gain access to new audiences?

Doc Next is hosted by Leena Pasanen, Executive Producer at YLE Fact & Culture. YLE is the national public broadcaster of Finland. Leena has built a strong reputation as an internationally oriented European program editor and is particularly known for her support of new talent.
Contributing guests are young filmmakers Ahang Bashi (Sweden), Solomon Walter-Kelly (UK), Erhan Arik (Turkey), and Vieru Dan Ilian (Romania), and experts Patricia Aufderheide (Professor of Film & Media Arts at the School of Communication of the American University in Washington), Noel Goodwin (Youth Programmer BFI, UK), Arman Tadevosyan (Curator and initiator of 5th Floor in Armenia), Beadie Finzi (Director of Britdoc Channel 4, UK), and ARTE.

Doc Next takes place on November 20, 2010, from 14:30 to 18:00 (drinks at 16:30) at Escape, Rembrandtplein 11, Amsterdam.
