In the context of De Brakke Grond & IDFA

Exhibition in collaboration with IDFA (IDFA DocLab and IDFA Paradocs) and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent

The visual artists and filmmakers in the Expanding Documentary exhibition filter the documentary: they comment, retranslate and distort it. Some use non-cinematic work - an installation, an audio work - others challenge the peculiarities of the documentary using the medium of film itself. All works reflect on the way in which the classic documentary aims to portray reality.

World premiere HIGHRISE/Out My Window StorySpace Installation
This project explores our urban planet as seen through the eyes of people who view the world from towering apartment buildings. The 360° web documentary Out My Window is expanded here into a larger-than-life, tangible environmental experience. Katerina Cizek and the NFB HIGHRISE team have collaborated with the interactive artist Priam Givord and the CFC Media Lab, taking us on a journey into the heart of a 'spatial cinematographic experience' where projected photos, cuts and close-ups become larger than life take on dimensions and can be physically felt.

Vita Nova
Vincent Meessen reworks his documentary Vita Nova (shown at IDFA 2009) into an installation. The magazine Paris-Match from 1955, with the image of a child soldier on the cover, also the starting point of this searching film, is being brought back into circulation. It is a rereading and rearrangement of lost information, creating a personal myth.

The Corridor
For the video installation The Corridor, Sarah Vanagt followed a donkey that visits elderly people in retirement homes in southern England. A meeting takes place - between man and animal, between past and present, between skin and hair.
