Presentation of the first MeccaPANZA Award during the Netherlands Film Festival
Sunday, September 28, 21:00 – 22:00, festival pavilion, De Neude, Utrecht
During the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht, the MeccaPANZA Award will be presented for the first time, a new prize for the best short film script by a writer aged 18 to 28. The winner is automatically selected for the European final round, with a chance of realizing the short film.
MeccaPANZA, Dutch Association for New Cinema (www.meccapanza.eu), is organizing the Dutch preliminary round of this competition with a European focus for the second time this year. This year's European theme is Escape. For the first time this year, a special award has been created for the Dutch winner, alongside the European prize.
The MeccaPANZA Award, in the form of a medal presented in Utrecht, was designed by sculptor Lucie Nijland. The winner also receives a screenplay-related book package from International Theatre & Film Books in Amsterdam.
The prize-winning screenplay is automatically selected for the European final round. In November, the international NISI MASA Script Contest jury in Zagreb will announce the three European winners. With the support of NISI MASA (network for young European cinema), see www.nisimasa.com, the screenplays of the three European winners will be filmed. All finalists stand a chance to realize their film and receive guidance within "Script and Pitch" at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival. They will also receive intensive guidance from professionals in the European Short Pitch program.
The MeccaPANZA Award 2008 is supported by:
Filmstart.nl (www.filmstart.nl), Filmnetwerk Foundation (www.filmnetwerk.org), Atheneaum Bookstore in Amsterdam (www.athenaeum.nl), the Netherlands Film Festival (www.filmfestival.nl) and Beeld op Zondag (www.beeldopzondag.nl).
