Workshop Film music with Vidjay Beerepoot in Theater Het Pakhuis in Hoorn.

On March 17 and 25, 2012, Los Angeles-based, internationally renowned Vidjay Beerepoot will give a workshop for video, film, theater makers and composers. Vidjay, who grew up in Hoorn, has composed the music for numerous national and international (Hollywood) films and TV programmes. (See also his resume.)

Introduction:

What is film music and what does this music mean for a film?

Why is music added to a film? And how does this process work?

Anyone who has ever seen a film without music understands the enormous added value of music for a film. Adding a certain kind of music to a film can completely change it. The music tells a story and gives an extra emotional layer. Music is an extremely important aspect for the meaning of a film.
The above questions will be discussed in the 2-day workshop. The aspects involved in making a 'film score' are also discussed in more detail.
We make a 'case study' of a short film. You will be given an assignment to take home. This assignment will be dealt with jointly on the 2nd course day.

Who is the film music workshop intended for?

This workshop is ideal for (starting) filmmakers and composers. Film music is often neglected by filmmakers and therefore often undervalued. This workshop is also extremely suitable for theater makers. Film music therefore has many similarities with making music for theater performances.

• The practice and examplesPreparation: 'Case study', short film with director
• The process: How to make music for the film. We discuss 'temping', 'spotting', composing and giving and processing feedback.
• How do we communicate between filmmakers and composers?
• Getting to work: 'Tamping' an assignment. Evaluation and closing

• Own a computer at home (software is provided for the assignment).
