In honor of Bob Marley's 67th birthday, Caribbean Creativity, in collaboration with Each One Teach One, presents the fifth edition of Rootical Vibrations on Friday, February 10. The event takes place at Studio/K and consists of the European premiere of the poignant documentary Bad Friday: Rastafari after Coral Gardens and a slammin' Roots Reggae afterparty with The Skankin' Monks and Radical Hi-Fi Sound System.

Bad Friday is a new documentary focusing on a Rastafari community in western Jamaica that commemorates the Coral Gardens incident every year. This incident took place just after Jamaica's independence in 1962, when the Jamaican government arrested, imprisoned, and tortured hundreds of Rastas. The film documents the shocking history of violence against Rastas in Jamaica through the eyes of the most iconic Rastafari community and shows how people use memories of traumatic events to create new possibilities for a shared future.

The screening of Bad Friday will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, Deborah A. Thomas and Junior 'Gabu' Wedderburn, who are traveling to Amsterdam especially for the European premiere. Afterwards, around 10:30 PM, the evening and night (until 3 AM!) continues with a Roots Reggae afterparty featuring a performance by the Amsterdam reggae band The Skankin' Monks and the groovy DJs of Radical Hi-Fi Sound System.

The fifth edition of Rootical Vibrations, titled 'Rasta Struggles', is being held in honor of Bob Marley's 67th birthday (February 6, 1945). Bob Marley's music brought the Rastafari movement international fame. Reggae ensured worldwide recognition of Rastafari during a period when Rastas in Jamaica were still plagued by attacks and persecutions by the Jamaican government.
