World Cinema Amsterdam program announced, ticket sales start July 19

As of today, the full program of World Cinema Amsterdam can be found on www.worldcinemaamsterdam.nl. In the competition program, nine films compete for the World Cinema Amsterdam Jury Award worth €7,500, to be spent on a next film project. The (pre)sale of tickets for the festival that presents the best films from Asia, Africa and Latin America will start on Thursday, July 19.

Competition program: World Cinema Amsterdam Jury Award
As with the previous two editions of World Cinema Amsterdam, the competition program is central. Nine films, from experienced and debut directors, are competing for the World Cinema Amsterdam Jury Award worth €7,500. The nominees are:

• Daniel Aragão (Brazil)
• Massoud Bakhshi (Iran)
• Umut Dağ (Austria)
• Edwin (Indonesia)
• Raúl Fuentes (Mexico)
• Kim Nguyen (Canada)
• Pablo Stoll Ward (Uruguay)
• Moussa Touré (Senegal)

The films will have their Dutch or European premiere during the festival.

This year the jury consists of documentary maker Heddy Honigmann, director of the Semana dos Realizadores film festival and curator of the Brazil program Lis Kogan, and director of the Open Doek world film festival Marc Boonen.

World Cinema Amsterdam
This year World Cinema Amsterdam will welcome 22 filmmakers, many of whom come from Brazil. This year, Brazil as a film country is central to the Brazilian Stories program - with long and short films, popular music documentaries and spectacular parties with Brazilian DJs.

Rialto and Marie Heinekenplein (open-air performances) are as always the main locations. This time the competition program can also be seen in De Balie, while two open-air films will also be shown in the Vondelpark Open Air Theater. As usual, there are also Q&As, debates and parties on the programme. Of course, this year too, the audience can express their preference: the highest-rated film wins the World Cinema Amsterdam Audience Award, which also carries a prize of €7,500.
