Cinedans 2009, more than just a dance film
The International Dance Film Festival Cinedans 2009 takes place this year from July 1 to 11 in the theaters around Leidseplein in Amsterdam.
Cinedans screens dance films in the documentary and short film genres, as well as media installations.
Cinedans is also organizing two New Media evenings for the first time together with Julidans, featuring Kris Verdonck (BE) and Chunky Move (AU).
Films that have been selected: Out of Focus by Tomer Heyman about the world-renowned Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin and the award-winning film Nora, by Alla Kovgan and David Hinton, about the Zimbabwean dancer Nora Chipaumire.
The opening of Cinedans is on Friday, July 3 at Cinema de Balie, and the film festival closes on Saturday, July 11 at the Melkweg in Amsterdam.
Cinedans moves from Rialto to theaters around Leidseplein
Over the past two years, the core of the Cinedans program, such as the competition and the presentation of the Cinedans Award, took place at Rialto.
In the meantime, the festival has grown to such an extent that it was decided to move Cinedans 2009 to the theaters around Leidseplein.
Dance films related to the performances at Julidans are being screened at the Melkweg.
The Jury Shorts can be seen at Cinema de Balie, and the awards ceremony takes place there.
Other Cinedans locations are the Stadsschouwburg, Paradiso (I Like To Watch Too), and CASZuidas.
New Media Evenings: new initiative by Cinedans and Julidans
New at Cinedans are the New Media evenings in collaboration with Julidans.
For Glow by Chunky Move, choreographer Gideon Obarzanek (winner of the Cinedans Award 2008) and interactive software engineer Frieder Weiß have jointly created an ingenious dance installation in which the dancer determines the lighting, set, and sound with her moving body.
In Duet by Kris Verdonck, a man and a woman find themselves in a situation of absolute mutual dependence. Machines repeatedly force them to perform movements, in which they inevitably have to develop absolute mutual trust.
Cinedans 2009 locations: De Balie, Melkweg, Paradiso, CASZuidas.
The full program can be found on www.cinedans.nl from mid-April 2009.
