What the Bossche Makershuis does, and what it wants to achieve
For the past two years, we have been working hard on an infrastructure within which the artist could excel as a cultural entrepreneur.
To rule out any misunderstandings in advance: the Makershuis does not limit itself to facilitating or creating the conditions. Precisely by being active as an initiator and producer ourselves, we aim to make a structural contribution to the change in mentality and the improvement of the cultural climate in our city. In this way, the Bossche Makershuis wants to be the fertilizer on the sandy soils – a soil that is richer than many artists think – and foster fermentation, growth, and flourishing through collaboration. In short: the Makershuis as the gardener in the cultural field.
The Bossche Makershuis is looking for buildings in the city that can be set up, for short or long periods, as workspaces for artists from all creative professions. These buildings are intended to function as embassies for the arts in the neighborhood. The layout of these buildings is open and transparent. There is space for presentation and meeting. Each Makershuis holds regular open house events. Projects are organized that involve the neighborhood and the city. In this way, the Makershuis is a place where you can meet and engage with artists.
Currently, thanks to construction company Heijmans and housing corporation Zayaz, and the professional management of the Atelierbeheerstichting, the Bossche Makershuis occupies two buildings: Nieuwstraat 24 and Copernicuslaan 80A. Forty artists are currently working here.
From January 2009, we have access to the water tower thanks to the Municipality!
Location
Nieuwstraat 24
