“Best Of”, featuring three cinematic gems from the latest festival program plus the Tiger Award-winning debut film by Ramtin Lavafipour, Be Calm and Count to Seven....
The Iranian Film Festival was successfully held for the third time last October at Lantaren/Venster in Rotterdam. Now, everyone has the chance to see the best films of the festival one more time as a preview of the fourth edition later this year.
Moreover, the new film Be Calm and Count to Seven is being given extra attention: filmmaker Nafiss Nia helps us unravel Ramtin Lavafipour's debut film, and programme maker and journalist Bahram Sadeghi (known from, among others, De Wereld Draait Door) tells us more about smuggling and being smuggled in Iran in a video message.
And following the rock documentary At the End of A Perfect Day, visual artist Mostafa Heravi shares his experiences in the Iranian rock scene with us.
The timetable for Saturday, April 25 is as follows:
13-15 hours: Documentary: At the End of a Perfect Day + short film (Mina Keshavarz, 2008).
After the film, Parwin Mirrahimy speaks with filmmaker and visual artist Mostafa Heravi about (illegal) pop music in Iran.
15:00-17:00: Theme program: Humor in Iran.
After the compilation program, Parwin Mirrahimy speaks with writer and documentary filmmaker Eefje Blankevoort about humor in Iranian cinema.
19-21 hours: Documentary: Tehran, Another Side + short film (Sam Ali Kashani, 2008).
After the film, Parwin Mirrahimy talks with writer and documentary filmmaker Eefje Blankevoort about Iranian youth culture.
21-23 hours: Feature film Be Calm and Count to Seven (Ramtin Lavafipour, 2009).
After the film, we will see a short video interview that Dirk van der Straaten conducted with publicist and programme maker Bahram Sadeghi about smuggling into and out of Iran, and Parwin Mirrahimy will speak with writer and documentary filmmaker Nafiss Nia about the cinematography of Be Calm and Count to Seven. Do not miss this film, as it will not be screened in art house cinemas for any further time!
In the meantime, you can continuously enjoy dazzling Iranian video art, spicy Persian dishes, soft cushions, and mint tea in the foyer.
The Iranian Film Festival offers a diverse program every year of short films, music videos, animated films, feature films, and documentaries, as well as photography, music, and culinary delights. The fourth edition of the Iranian Film Festival will take place on November 27, 28, and 29, 2009, at Lantaren/Venster in Rotterdam. The festival will be partly dedicated to 30 years of revolution.
