July 1 to 11
De Balie, Melkweg, Theater Bellevue, Paradiso, CASZuidas
www.cinedans.nl
Cinedans 2009 takes place this year from July 1 to 11 in the theaters around Leidseplein in Amsterdam. Under the motto Exploring Boundaries, Cinedans presents short and feature-length dance films, dance documentaries, an installation, and crossovers of dance, technology, and visual art.
The installation Les Commerçants by André Gingras is a series of video portraits of people who use their bodies to earn money. Each portrait lasts 7 minutes and consists of a danced solo and an interview. How much is their body worth in monetary terms? And what are the current market prices of youth, beauty, skills, and talent?
Les Commercants is thematically similar to the performance IDORU by Gingras, on view on July 2 & 3 at the Stadsschouwburg during Julidans.
Les Commerçants, July 1 to 11 (except July 5 & 8), Melkweg, continuously from 6:00 PM
Dioraphte Jury Award, Dioraphte Student Award & the Audience Award
