New comic web series Vacancy now available on You Tube

About the Vacancy
Vacature follows the experiences of the highly educated unemployed couple Chiel Ramaeckers (Pieter Verelst) and Mara Keijser (Liza Kollau). Each episode revolves around the search for a job. Very occasionally, it is that coveted dream job that perfectly matches their education and ambitions, but usually it is a position far below their level that, to their frustration, they don't get either. Chiel has been laid off due to budget cuts at the company where he had worked as a sales representative for years. Since then, he has not been as self-assured, and his nerves sabotage his job applications. Mara is full of enthusiasm and ambition now that she has just graduated as a cultural anthropologist, but she has zero experience. The fact that they are not hired is partly Chiel and Mara's fault, but also due to the hiring committees that ask strange questions and set extremely high standards.
If Chiel and Mara don't find a job within a few months, they will no longer be able to pay their mortgage and will be forced to move in with Chiel's domineering mother…
Besides being comedic and topical, the series is also very relatable for anyone applying for a job.

About the creation
Filmmakers want to make films. It is as simple as that. But funds have fewer grants to award, processes take a long time, and producers are fickle. For these reasons, the makers started developing and producing their own series themselves. Without a budget and with borrowed equipment. But with an enthusiastic cast and crew who believe in the series and were willing to work for free for two episodes. The result is Vacature.

Episode 2 will be available later this month. The creators are currently seeking sponsorship and crowdfunding to realize the subsequent episodes of the first season as well.

About the creators
Jimmy Tai is a director and has been working in the film industry for years. He has made various short films, including Special Offer and Former Lovers.

Maarten van den Broek is a screenwriter and actor. He wrote episodes for the television series Dokters and De Kliniek, among others.

Eveline Hagenbeek is a screenwriter. Her screenplay Rokjesdag was awarded the Visser-Neerlandia Prize for Screenplay in 2013.

About the actors
Pieter Verelst (24) is studying acting at the Utrecht University of the Arts. He is currently appearing in the play Oresteia by the Noord Nederlands Toneel, directed by Gerardjan Rijnders.

Liza Kollau (22) is studying acting at the Utrecht University of the Arts. This year she is acting and singing in the Night of the Proms production by Orkest Concordia.
