“Everything you possibly want to know about using LED lighting for Camera.”

Can you mix LED light with Tungsten and HMI light? Is the use of LED light cheaper than conventional film lighting? Does the use of LED light lead to more “green filmmaking”? Why is LED lighting already very common for television/multi-camera, while the film world is still hesitant about this phenomenon?

For everyone involved in camera, lighting, color correction, or directing, and for producers who want to stay up to date in their field, the NBF is organizing a seminar on the use of LED lighting in digital cinematography on Saturday, May 30. The seminar will focus on test footage shot in March using various LED fixtures on Arri Alexa and Sony F65 cameras. Additionally, keynote speaker Alan Roberts (UK) will give an inspiring introduction and share his extensive knowledge of camera and LED lighting with the attendees.

The aim of the tests was to visually and representatively illustrate what happens during the mixed use of various LED light sources in combination with traditional Tungsten and HM light, and at the same time to make a comparison between a number of different LED luminaires. The central questions are:

What happens on camera in situations with mixed light LED, Tungsten, HMI?
What are the differences between LED, Tungsten, and HMI color spectra?
Why does the CRI value predict nothing about the color spectrum of LED light on the camera?

During the seminar, we will discuss the results of these tests with various experienced professionals in the fields of camera, grading, and lighting, and there will be an opportunity to discuss this rapidly growing lighting technology with the attendees using the material. There is also the possibility to view LED fixtures in an extensive setup in the hall.
