'There's tha devil runnin' through my blood'
The Appalachians, West Virginia. Jesco White is born the son of the famous mountain dancer D Ray White. The devoutly religious D Ray tries to keep his petrol-snorting son on the straight and narrow by teaching him traditional tap dancing. In vain; young Jesco spends his youth in one re-education camp after another, and his father becomes the tragic victim of a cowardly murder. Once mature, Jesco dances from bar to bar, as a tribute to his father and to keep his demons in check. This is how he meets the much older Cilla, the love of his life. But his thirst for revenge and redemption continues to plague him, and he will go to terrifying lengths to obtain both.
White Lightnin' takes you into the depths of addiction, genius, and madness; a nightmare accompanied by a fittingly bizarre soundtrack by Hasil Adkins. With a screenplay based on the life of the real Jesco White, director Dominic Murphy created an intense and undeniably sensational portrait of the tormented 'dancing outlaw'.
