ANIMATION IN PUBLIC SPACE - ACTIONS OF MAARTEN ISAAK DE HEER
During the Holland Animation Film Festival, animation will not only be on display within the safe darkness of the cinema hall. On the opening night of the HAFF on Wednesday, November 4 at 5:30 PM, the installation *Handelingen* by Maarten Isak de Heer will premiere on the facades of Utrecht City Hall. When the sun sets, this special installation will appear in the heart of Utrecht.
Handelingen is a unique animated search-and-find picture teeming with small events. Within a static framework, a fictional yet unmistakably Dutch perspective is presented, featuring a village, a church, a canal, fields and meadows, numerous roundabouts, and loitering teenagers. Everything proceeds peacefully until small fires break out, people start screaming, and panic ensues. Suddenly, calm returns. People calm down, and cleanup and tidying begin.
Handelingen is an uninterrupted wide shot, projected as a loop onto the facades of Utrecht City Hall. Handelingen will also premiere in 4K, the film standard of the near future with an insanely high resolution, in the special program What the 4K! on Friday, November 6.
CITY HALL EXHIBITION - THE VISUAL JOURNEY OF KIKA & BOB - FONS SCHIEDON
Animation is being shown not only ON the Utrecht City Hall, but also INSIDE the city hall. Coinciding with the Proceedings, the exhibition 'The Visual Journey of Kika & Bob' opens.
Kika & Bob is a 26-episode animated series about firefighter Bob and the smart girl Kika, who travel the world to rescue Kika's cat, Tigger. On their journey, they are confronted with terrible obstacles and strange people and animals.
All 26 episodes have been given their own unique look. A team of 18 designers worked with production designer Fons Schiedon on approximately 4,000 different designs, ranging from elaborate jungle panoramas to a simple coffee cup. In 'The Visual Journey of Kika & Bob', a small selection has been made from this wide variety of backgrounds and supporting characters produced for the series. There are rough sketches, color scripts, character models, and final background plates, which provide insight into the production of such a series as well as simply form a collection of atmospheric drawings of exotic locations and characters.
Fons Schiedon is a jury member for the Shorts competition at the Holland Animation Film Festival.
