With great passion, perseverance, and loyalty to the filmmakers, Anton Smit has produced successes under the banner of IDTV Film such as the Oscar-nominated film De Tweeling (Golden Calf Best Feature Film 2002, Marieke van der Pol and Ben Sombogaart), Van God Los (Golden Calf Direction and Screenplay 2003, Pieter Kuipers and Paul Jan Nelissen), Familie (Golden Calf Critics' Prize 2001, Maria Goos and Willem van de Sande Bakhuyzen), Cloaca (Golden Calf Special Jury Prize 2003, Willem van de Sande Bakhuyzen and Maria Goos), television films such as Escort (Frank Ketelaar) and De Uitverkorene (Emmy Award for Best Actor Pierre Bokma, Theu Boermans, Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins), and Bride Flight (2008, Ben Sombogaart, Marieke van der Pol).
Before Anton Smit co-founded IDTV Film with Hanneke Niens in 1999, he pursued a career in the theater world and in television. At IDTV, for instance, he was responsible for television programs such as Pleidooi, Oud Geld, Fort Alpha, and Finals, as well as the successful television program Taxi (Gouden Roos, Montreux). In the years prior, Anton Smit worked at VARA as Head of Fiction.
Anton Smit currently has several feature films in development, including with IDTV Film. In the spring of 2010, two films in which he is involved as creative producer will be released in cinemas: First Mission by director Boris Paval Conen and Vreemd Bloed by director Johan Timmers, based on a screenplay by Maria Goos. Both films are being released by distributor A-Film.
