Behind the scenes - distribution of the small arthouse film
On Friday, August 22, the second summer evening of the NFTVM & Pluk de Nacht takes place. This evening, the amazing Swedish film Let the Right One In by Tomas Alfredson has its Dutch preview, outdoors on Timorplein in Amsterdam!
Prior to the film, there will be a discussion about the distribution of smaller foreign films in the Netherlands. How do you distribute a small foreign film? Why is one film released while another remains on the shelf? What is the role of film festivals in helping these films reach their audience in mainstream cinemas? A conversation about the ins and outs of distributing festival successes that struggle to find their way to the cinema.
Joining the table will be Jan Doense, distributor of Let the Right One In and founder of the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival, among others. Also present will be Sarah Hohner of Cinema Delicatessen, a Dutch distributor focusing on artistically and culturally valuable films that also distributes digitally. The third guest at the table is Caspar Sonnen, programmer and driving force behind the Pluk de Nacht Film Festival, which is increasingly positioning itself as a platform for the little gems of the latest cinema that have not been acquired for regular distribution.
