The founder of The PMD is Errol Nayci. He was the producer of, among others, the Oscar-nominated Everybody Famous!, The Cave, and Lunatic Luna, the Movie. As a distributor, he worked for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, among others.
The rise of new media has had a major impact on the Marketing and Distribution (M&D) of film. A modern film company cannot ignore the growing importance of the internet and interactive applications for film M&D. New circumstances call for new ideas.
The PMD position was initiated by American digital distribution expert Jon Reiss, who is giving a workshop in Amsterdam on Wednesday, May 12. The American film industry has traditionally been known for its innovative character and dynamism in the field of marketing and distribution.
Filmmaking and its Marketing & Distribution were always separate processes. With the rise of new media, the film industry recognized and explored the possibilities of starting M&D well before the first day of shooting to create a buzz. Consequently, a position was added to the production team: one person responsible for M&D from the very beginning—the PMD. He is not responsible for the physical production but initiates the marketing process and acts as a bridge between the producer, distributor, and financiers. In short, the PMD is the central hub in the extensive web that is a film production.
The company recently launched the feature film Pizzamaffia by director Tim Oliehoek and producer IDTV Film. Pizzamaffia is a cross-media project in which the audience is made part of the creative process through a combination of film, a book, the internet, mobile, and music.
