The Seamstresses' Eulogy Funding
Beautiful people,
Our names are W.F. Plainview (writer and co-director) and Jawad Maakor (director) of Filmhaus Pictures. We're in the process of making a film called The Seamstresses' Eulogy. It's a sufficiently unusual project to sound incredibly pretentious when describing the genre. Here's an attempt: the film is a surreal noir in a faintly retro-futuristic but decidedly dystopian setting. Its themes include but are not limited to displacement in society, humanism in the dregs of a totalitarian society, female empowerment, the development of morality and that same morality confronted with itself; all of them quite personal. It will run roughly 50 minutes.
We've gathered a crew consisting of professionals who, rather than looking to make a quick buck, are looking to make something beautiful, and because of this general level we're confident that once this project has come to fruition, we'll have at the very least a fighting chance of entering the more prominent film festivals. This also means we can do a lot of things on the way, way cheap, as cameras (RED cameras) won't need to be rented but are loaned.
We're most likely receiving part of the funding from Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst (Amsterdam Fund for the Arts) and financing a quite a share out of our own pockets. Should this Kickstarter be remotely successful, we're putting all the funds towards the production itself; from sets to costumes and our actors' travel expenses. Any excess money we will be donating to Médecins Sans Frontières (also known as Doctors Without Borders): a secular and all-around extraordinary humanitarian NGO helping people who need it the most, regardless of race, religion, politics, and so forth.
