1st script-production contest netherlands-mexico

As part of the 3rd biannual Mexican film festival Cinemaztlán in Amsterdam on October 2009, the festival invites Dutch screenwriters and Mexican filmmakers to participate in the first short film script-production contest (fiction only). The winners will receive a script development coaching courtesy of the Binger Filmlab in Amsterdam and will co-produce the short with film institutions of both countries. The short film will be premiered at a special presentation of Cinemaztlán. The contest has the aim of stimulating co-production between Mexico and the Netherlands, to create a vehicle for intercultural dialogue and reflect on their cultural relations. This script-production contest will be developed in two parts: 1) an open call for Dutch scriptwriters to develop a short film story. The script should be based on: a) a Mexican story, myth or legend and its transformation in the 21st century, or b) a relevant intercultural theme between Mexico and the Netherlands finding correspondences or parallels. 2) an open call for Mexican filmmakers to film the winning Dutch script. Participants shall submit a complete production/director’s proposal on the selected script. 1. The script contest in the Netherlands is open to: • Dutch screenwriters/film students on their third and fourth year. • Dutch graduated screenwriters 2. The production contest in Mexico is open to: • Mexican students on their third or fourth year of film school. • Mexican graduated filmmakers Both Dutch and Mexican winners will be invited to attend the opening ceremony of the 3 edition of Cinemaztlán in Amsterdam on October 2009. The production of the short film in Mexico City and the post production in Amsterdam will take place according to an approved timetable with the involved co-producing partners.
