[Rotterdam] 14 April 2022 – International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) announces the date of the 52nd festival edition, which will take place from 25 January to 5 February 2023. After two years, IFFR is returning with an in-person festival, provided circumstances permit. Under the leadership of Festival Director Vanja Kaludjercic and Business Director Marjan van der Haar, IFFR, with a history spanning half a century, is entering a new phase: restructuring the organization with a focus on the future. Vanja Kaludjercic, IFFR Festival Director: “We have great respect for the resilience of our team, which has succeeded over the past two challenging years in engaging audiences at IFFR and supporting filmmakers in innovative ways. We are proud that we managed to keep an open mind and to learn, exchange knowledge, and collaborate with partners in a rapidly changing environment. Our goal is to create a leading cultural platform for immersive cinema and audiovisual art that is accessible to everyone.” Marjan van der Haar, General Director of IFFR, adds: “Like many organizations, the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences have also hit us financially. Changes in audience behavior, as well as the film industry, have led us into a new world. The plans we are making for 2023 and beyond require a focused vision with a balanced team to realize them.” We are focusing on a new organizational structure to enable audience growth, greater impact, and diversity of revenue streams. At the same time, we can become a more sustainable and dynamic organization, which is essential to secure the future of IFFR. Through the restructuring, IFFR reduces its personnel costs by 15% and the organization is divided into five divisions: Content, Communication & Audience Reach, Funding & Business Growth, Business Affairs, and Operations. The IFFR Executive Board fully supports this course. IFFR will present the new team during the international film festival in Cannes.

REQUIEM FOR AUSCHWITZ is the sequel to the award-winning film A PIECE OF BLUE IN THE SKY (2007). In this remarkable new film, director Bob Entrop follows Sinti composer Roger Moreno-Rathgeb composing in his caravan, during rehearsals, and later during the performance with the Sinti and Roma Philharmonic and a Jewish choir in the Berliner Dom during Holocaust Memorial Day in Berlin. During a visit to Auschwitz with several Dutch musicians, he shows them the places that inspired him. His story is interspersed with the confrontation between the grandchildren of some of the main characters from A Piece of Blue in the Sky and the story of their grandparents.
