Do you want to become a screenwriter, or do you want to discover if that is something you want to do? ScriptAcademy is the leading training provider in the field of scriptwriting. In our Basic Course, your enthusiasm and inspiration will be sparked, and you will receive expert instruction. Over six training days, our enthusiastic instructors Henk Burger and Gemma Derksen will give you a thorough introduction to the craft. You will practice character development and dramatic tension at a rapid pace. You will come to understand how powerful screenwriting tools such as genre, dialogue, voice-over, or flashback function. Useful writing techniques and invisible pitfalls are illustrated with film and screenplay clips. You will practice the knowledge you have gained with short writing assignments. You will work towards a short ten-minute film screenplay.

The Eyeopener is an accessible half-day workshop designed to introduce you to the craft of screenwriting so that you can discover if it might be something for you. We will cover three theory blocks: Narrative Structure, Characters, Scene, and Dialogue. We will show various film clips to illustrate the theory. In between, there will be short writing assignments during class. You do not need to prepare anything or know anything beforehand. We will discuss the writing assignment afterwards. What did you struggle with? In this way, we constantly alternate theory with practice. The focus is explicitly not on performance, but solely on getting acquainted with and enjoying the profession.

Documentary workshop (nl/english) - 6 participants - april 2024 (may holidays)

The next edition of the Basic Screenwriting Course starts on March 1st. Six Fridays (through April 5th) full of information and inspiration, where you can take your first steps in this wonderful profession under the guidance of our enthusiastic instructors Henk Burger and Gemma Derksen. There are still a few places available! The Basic Course offers a clear, practical overview of the craft of screenwriting. You will practice character development and dramatic tension at a rapid pace. You will come to understand how powerful screenplay devices such as genre, dialogue, voice-over, or flashbacks are. Useful writing techniques and invisible pitfalls are illustrated with film and screenplay clips. How do you play with the viewer and their expectations? In what form does your story come into its own best? When does visual action work more strongly than extensive dialogue? How do you create identification with a main character? Which writing techniques are at your disposal to generate and maintain tension? You will practice the knowledge you have gained with short writing assignments. By the end of the six class days, you will have gained insight into the basic principles of drama, and your analytical skills and imagination will have been honed. Additionally, you will gain an understanding of the professional field and the position of a screenwriter.

At the request of many, we are going to do this just once. Something totally new and unique in our history. (Well, 25+ years) Are you taking a gap year?
