'Audition' to European Union Short Film Festival

The short film 'Auditie' by Udo Prinsen to the European Union Short Film Festival in collaboration with the Canadian Film Institute. The short film Audition has been selected as the Dutch entry for the European Union Short Film Festival in Canada. The 34th edition of this festival is normally organized by the Ottawa Art Gallery. Due to the COVID-19 regulations affecting the world, it was decided to present the films online this time. Theme freedom Audition was selected for its theme, which aligns with the Month of Freedom that the Dutch Embassy in Canada has on its agenda for the month of May. In the film, a boy auditions for the Auschwitz camp orchestra, a premise inspired by the biography of Lex van Weren. Inspired by a true story Van Weren was a trumpeter in Amsterdam and was arrested and deported during World War II. He could take very few things with him, one of which was his trumpet. This became his salvation, as he was eventually selected for the Auschwitz camp orchestra. Call The film is accompanied by a special soundtrack composed by trumpeter Eric Vloeimans in collaboration with pianist and composer Martin Fondse. Vloeimans has released the sheet music for various parts to encourage, together with Udo Prinsen, the public and musicians to record and share their version of Lex. Follow this link for the call: https://prinsen.studio/lex The Netherlands vs Europe Prinsen is very pleased with this selection, not only because he gets to represent the Netherlands, but also Europe, with this film. “The European Union is one of the elements that emerged from the horrors of World War II through desires for fraternity and the preservation of freedom. A concept that works, that makes us realize that we are an element in a larger whole. It is a great honor that the film Auditie can contribute a small part to the realization of this concept.” Links Audition: https://prinsen.studio/audition/ Canadian Film Institute: https://www.cfi-icf.ca/ Free tickets are available via the link on the website of the European Union Short Film Festival: https://www.cfi-icf.ca/eushorts The online festival can be viewed between May 14 and 21.
