Masterclass 'Media collections as a source of inspiration' ism

On January 17 from 19:30 to 22:00, Amsterdam Film School, together with Beeld en Geluid, is organizing a Masterclass on Media Collections as a Source of Inspiration. Beeld en Geluid manages a broad, daily growing media collection containing more than 1 million hours of radio, television, film, games, photos, and music. This collection is ideally suited for reuse in new productions. During this masterclass, the collection will be explored in greater depth, including what it can mean for one's own work and how it can be viewed. The updated catalogue system DAAN will be briefly explained by senior image researcher Hans van den Berg, who will also show parts of the collection. In part 2 of the masterclass, filmmaker Wim van der Aar (Jan Wolkers spreekt.., De van Waveren tapes) shows how he uses the audio and video collection of Beeld en Geluid and other collections for his productions. About Wim van der Aar and Hans van den Berg Wim van der Aar Wim van der Aar (1964) is a self-taught filmmaker. At the beginning of his career, he focused primarily on experimental films. Not long after, he proved himself to be a gifted commercial director as well; his first commercial for Calvé was an immediate huge hit and won an award. Following this success, Wim has made many award-winning commercials, his work always characterized by his humor and timing. In 2012, Van der Aar released his first documentary, titled *De van Waveren Tapes*. This was shortly followed by *Gabbers*, *All you need is me*, and *Jan wolkers spreekt*. These films were screened in cinemas throughout the country. In addition, over the past twenty years, Van der Aar has built up a collection of around five thousand audio and video carriers. In 1996, together with other found footage enthusiasts, he founded SUPERM8, a platform for the presentation of amateur films, home films, and experimental film, and his collection forms the basis for various film projects. Hans van den Berg Hans has been affiliated with the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision in Hilversum for 16 years. He works there as an image researcher for a wide range of clients, from programme makers to documentary makers, from museums to feature film directors. He was fascinated by the medium of television from a young age, and due to a genetic anomaly, he stores many images in his mind and can often retrieve them years later. Film triptych Greetings from Rotterdam at IFFR Lantaren Venster January 23, 2019 at 3:00 PM IFFR- RTM Classics (1) Screening of the renowned 3-part series Groeten uit Rotterdam (1980) by Dick Rijneke and Mildred van Leeuwaarden, commissioned by the VPRO. Each part lasts an hour and provides a picture of the Rotterdam art and punk scene in the turbulent 70s and 80s. The one-off television broadcast led to fierce reactions and strong criticism, after which this series was hardly shown again (2). Now a unique document of a turbulent time, filmed in a direct cinematic style. GREETINGS FROM ROTTERDAM ART, CAKES AND COFFEE A collaborative project by artists Cor Kraat, Bob van Persie, and Hans Citroen. Paintings and 'pieces' are exhibited unguarded in an ordinary street. What happens? Are they vandalized, stolen, or do they simply remain hanging? A BLACK AND WHITE STATEMENT The artists of Kunst & Vaarwerk, Hans Citroen, Willem van Drunen, and Cor Kraat, roam the harbor in search of opportunities for intervention. A graffiti exhibition is being organized at the 'Black Cat' gallery, but the true punks believe that graffiti belongs on the street. But above all, they express themselves through music. With the punk bands The Tändstickorshocks, The Sovjets, Rode Wig, the Rondo's and a legendary performance by Jules Deelder. HUIZE SCHOONDERLOO The renowned collective KK Dubio fights the 'System' from Huize Schoonderloo.
