Aankondiging van een ongewone presentatie van 8 korte filmplannen tijdens MASTER OF FILM GRADUATION SHOW, 24 juni t/m 29 juni 2016, EYE Amsterdam (gratis toegang) OMSCRHIJVING Bijna alle scenaristen en regisseurs vinden het een worsteling om een filmidee in een synopsis van slechts een paar regels te moeten vatten. Misschien is de synopsis dan ook niet de ideale vorm om een filmplan te presenteren. Filmmaker Fedor Sendak heeft tijdens zijn masterstudie aan de Nederlandse Filmacademie een vorm ontwikkeld om filmideeën te presenteren zonder een synopsis. Bij deze presentatievorm, die gepresenteerd wordt onder de titel “It’s Not Like I Planned It this Way”, staat de zintuigelijke ervaring voorop. Sendak’s alternatieve presentatie-methode is in deze installatie praktisch toegepast op vier voorbeeldprojecten, een selectie uit 16 filmprojecten die hij ontwikkelde tijdens zijn studie. TOELICHTING OP DE INSTALLATIE "It’s Not Like I Planned It This Way" Acht korte filmplannen Op een centrale plek in het EYE Filmmuseum bevindt zich een verduisterde ruimte. De bezoeker krijgt bij binnenkomst een lantaarn in de hand en kan plaatsnemen op een van de beschikbare zitplaatsen. Hierna worden ze benaderd door een in zwart geklede bediende, die een menu aanreikt en verder niet spreekt. Op het menu staan verschillende elementen die verband houden met een specifieke film. Men kan deze elementen bestellen door ze aan te wijzen op de menukaart. Vervolgens wordt de keuze geserveerd. Dit kan bijvoorbeeld zijn: een voorwerp, een gebaar, een geur, een kleurcombinatie, een poëtisch stukje tekst, muziek, een recept, een schilderij of een fragment van het geluidsontwerp. Bij het verlaten van de ruimte wordt de bezoeker gevraagd aan te geven welk filmplan het beste beviel. De verzamelde resultaten worden meegenomen in het vervolgtraject, de pre-productie van de films. Fedor: "Het presenteren van een filmplan gaat meestal met een synopsis; een paar regels tekst die snel een indruk moeten geven van een nog te maken (fictie)film. De literaire vorm van de synopsis is weliswaar efficiënt in veel situaties, zoals het aanvragen van subsidies, maar het gaat voorbij aan een aantal bijzondere eigenschappen van het medium film. Film is meer dan ‘het verhaal’. Omdat de synopsis steevast zo vroeg in het productieproces wordt ingezet, heeft dit mogelijk een beperkende invloed op de diversiteit aan films die worden gerealiseerd. Een film waar juist het visuele of auditieve van belang is heeft namelijk meer moeite om in dit systeem op waarde te worden geschat. Een synopsis-lezer ziet als eerste de narratieve structuur van de film, terwijl een bioscoopbezoek veel meer een beleving voor het oog en oor is. Fedor Sendak’s installatie in EYE probeert die belevenis te benaderen, als een poging om de traditionele synopsis te vervangen door een vorm waar een beroep wordt gedaan op alle zintuigen. Componenten als muziek, beweging, geluid, fotografie, licht, kleur, objecten, locaties, en dialoog, krijgen daarmee een plek." Fedor Sendak ronde in 2003 zijn bachelor aan de filmacademie af als fictie-regisseur. Hij kwam terug naar de academie om zijn kennis op de schop te nemen. Film is a unique medium, and the New Renaissance Film Festival's mission is to support and champion the best upcoming filmmakers and screenwriters in this new era, to fulfill their dream in telling their stories. A FESTIVAL FOR NEW STORIES AND STORYTELLERS This one-day festival is organized by JAN HENDRIK VERSTRATEN and MASSIMO BARBATO who are themselves filmmakers and writers. They believe at the heart of every great film is a great story, one that will inspire an audience and hopefully help to shape culture in a positive way. NRFF Amsterdam has several categories for International, Dutch-Flemish (Flemish-Dutch) and LGBT filmmakers. This year's festival (OUR FIRST) will be held on the 29th October 2016, at LAB111, which is close to the famous Vondelpark in Amsterdam, a city known for its diversity and innovation in the creative arts. We will screen up to 80 films in two cinemas over the course of the day, including a fun COCKTAIL HOUR and AWARDS CEREMONY. The festival will be open to the public and ticket sales will be announced on the website in due course. Running alongside the festival, will be a SCREENWRITING COMPETITION, a series of MASTERCLASSES by film industry experts, and a PANEL DISCUSSION. STRENGTHENING AMSTERDAM'S FILM COMMUNITY It is our passion to not only provide an internship for our filmmakers but also to strengthen the film community in Amsterdam, by building an engaged audience through social media, our FILM OF THE WEEK and SCREENPLAY OF THE MONTH initiatives, and links with local businesses. BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE NRFF is growing from the ground up, and our festival has already been launched in London. Our mission is to enhance the vitality of independent filmmaking. Each city will engage with different themes and communities, giving independents the recognition they deserve.

News item Tungsten opens own studio complex just outside Amsterdam Since April of this year, Tungsten, a designer and producer of audiovisual content since 1991, has had his own film studio in rural Broek in Waterland, six kilometers north of Amsterdam. From the hustle and bustle of the city to the tranquility of the polder: at most fifteen minutes by bus, and even less by car. And there is plenty of parking space, too. Over the past few months, a former meat warehouse was transformed into a fully equipped studio consisting of three spaces of approximately 200m² each, one of which is equipped with a green screen. Since its opening in April, various parties have already found their way to Tungsten Studio, which also features office space, dressing rooms, and a shower. Producer Talpa filmed scenes for the RTL4 TV program Dance Dance Dance. The Gerrit Rietveld Academy hosted its annual film workshop there. The Fotomuseum Rotterdam held its presentation for the Parademuseum there. The Broekse Kunstroute found a home there, and episodes of the feature film/thriller Out for Vengeance were filmed during the first weekend of June. Tungsten Studio offers a wide range of possibilities under one roof. From setup to rehearsals to shooting. From art to commerce (and everything in between).
