The End of Film research week
The End of Film
What is the future of film? Although it is the youngest art form, in its short existence it has undergone rapid development from a fairground attraction to a prominent element in our society. Although the major discoveries of its visual language took place early on, it has always continued to develop technically.
But it is precisely these technological developments that now challenge its continued existence.
The visual capabilities of computers and the rise of the internet have fundamentally changed our world. What influence will virtual reality, interactivity, and the advent of online platforms have on film? Will they remain the same stories, but created in a different way? Or will new filmmakers rewrite the DNA of classic cinema forever?
Will this be the end of film – as we have known it?
This question is explored during our theme week through experimentation and reflection on the sub-themes of immersive, interactive, and collective storytelling. Twenty passionate young filmmakers from the Netherlands and Belgium, supported by actors and crew, lock themselves away in the middle of nowhere to take film to a new world. They are guided in this by innovative filmmakers and experts. Visit the website for more information about the guest lecturers. Academies with which we have contact are: AKV|St.Joost, Willem de Kooning, CMD Breda, NFTA, and HKU from the Netherlands, and Narafi, Ritcs, and St Lukas in Brussels.
The week culminates in a final presentation that offers insight into the vision of a future generation of filmmakers.
The week takes place from August 22 to 26, 2016.
