Our Soldier wins Golden Wing for Best Documentary

The documentary "Onze Soldaat" by Jotja Bessems and the Samenwerkende Heemkunde Organisaties Margraten is the winner of the Golden Wing for Best Documentary at the Eindhoven Film Festival 2015. "Onze Soldaat" can be seen at Natlab in Eindhoven for the entire month of December. "Our Soldier" is a film about the emotional bond between two continents, which is very much alive 70 years after the war. Two stories zoom in on the adoption of graves at the American military cemetery in Margraten. The film was inspired by the meeting between the filmmaker's parents and the family of the soldier whose grave they have adopted. This event in 2013 forms the starting point for a subdued, moving, and at times comical portrait of 70 years of grave adoption and connection in Margraten. From the jury report: This film makes a personal story from the filmmaker's family understandable to a large audience. Her film is a monument to all soldiers who fall in wartime, not only in South Limburg. The other contenders were “De jeweetwels” and “Laatste uur in de zon”. The film will be showing at the Natlab cinema in Eindhoven for the rest of the month of December.
