DFA breaks open the filmmakers' market

The recently launched programs of the Dutch Filmers Academy (DFA) are breaking open the filmmaker market and aligning with society's demand for professional audiovisual productions. Millions of films are shared worldwide every minute, and organizations see the power of film as a communication tool growing daily. The new film academy responds to the market demand for entrepreneurial filmmakers who enrich the business world with their work. Creative and artistic work, but with a clear communicative purpose. By laying a strong foundation in entrepreneurship, design, and technology, DFA seamlessly aligns with this through programs at the higher professional (HBO) and secondary vocational (MBO) levels. 'The enthusiastic, full classes show that there is also sufficient interest among students for a film academy with an entrepreneurial character,' notes Paul Akkermans, director of the Fotovakschool. As an initiative of the Fotovakschool, Dutch Filmers Academy has a solid foundation with 75 years of experience in education within the creative domain. Students at Dutch Filmers Academy get straight to work with the camera and work on projects to create a strong translation of a target-group-oriented message. Current film education focuses primarily on the artistic and creative production of films. DFA thinks from the perspective of market demand and, moreover, safeguards the bit part art of filmmaking. 'The combination of the innovative film landscape and our teaching method ensures a future full of professional filmmakers with a focus on corporate communication and commissioned film,' says Eric Goossens, manager and senior lecturer at DFA. Future all-round filmmakers who want to start a higher professional or secondary vocational education program in February can get acquainted with the DFA, receive personal study advice, and discuss their portfolio at the open day and information evening. Filmmakers wanted for films about refugees

FLIGHTING IS A RIGHT Amsterdam, October 2015 Since Europe has been confronted with many refugees in recent months, fierce discussions have flared up on this subject. For a positive turn to the discussion, we are going to make a series of short films, in which we provide insight into the situation of refugees who have recently or have been staying here for some time. We let a refugee tell something briefly: why he/she fled, what the situation is now and what his/her dream or expectation is. Each video is introduced by a person who appeals to the Dutch public. We start with 20 short films of 4 minutes, then expand to 50 films if finances allow. The reasons we want to make these short films are: • Remove the refugees from anonymity and give them a face. • Ensure that both new refugees and refugees who have been in the Netherlands for some time are given their say • Paying attention to the next phase after the initial reception, namely the issues that the refugees will have to deal with when they apply for asylum here. We want to market the films widely, show them on YouTube as well as on TV, in order to achieve the greatest possible reach among young and old. We have already made contact with a number of filmmakers. We are now looking for: • more filmmakers • to people who are familiar faces and want to participate in the films. Of course we want to tell you a lot more about the project, but in the first instance we want to gauge whether you are willing to participate. For the 'well-known persons' the time investment will be modest, a maximum of one hour. And at a place and time that suit you. We sincerely hope that you want to participate!
