On Tuesday, September 29, the Netherlands Film Festival is organizing Talent Day. For filmmakers looking to get started on a film plan, there is The Testing Ground in the morning. Many filmmakers have laid the foundation for their short film, One Night Stand, or feature film in previous Testing Grounds. During brainstorming sessions, you will receive a wealth of feedback and discover which other filmmakers you would like to collaborate with. Registration is open to screenwriters and directors of fiction projects and documentaries, preferably with a plan, but without one is also possible. There are a limited number of spots available for emerging producers.

On Monday, August 31, it is time again for the first NBF networking drinks after the summer break. During this evening, the world of visual effects will take center stage, specifically focusing on practice on set and in post-production. Have you ever been on a set and heard the remark: 'we'll fix that in post-production', or 'we did it that way last time too', or: 'we'll just smooth it out in post-production'? Comments that sometimes cost the production thousands of euros in (extra) costs. When should you have a VFX supervisor or assistant come to the set? Why are some VFX shots so expensive and others so easy to do, and why does VFX become so complicated when 3D animation is involved? VFX for Dummies, not in book form, but as a presentation by Kasper Oerlemans and Dennis Kleyn, two leading VFX supervisors in the Netherlands. Last year, there was a special day about VFX during the film festival. One of the highlights of that day was a presentation by Dennis and Kasper on a number of basic principles regarding VFX. Basic knowledge, or rather basic awareness, that every cameraman/producer/production manager/first assistant/director, as well as costume and makeup, should have in their head.
