Stop-motion animation Under The Apple Tree on CineCrowd
From April 21, Erik van Schaaik's film project Under The Apple Tree is available on crowdfunding platform CineCrowd: www.cinecrowd.nl/under-apple-tree. Under The Apple Tree is a bizarre horror comedy about worms, apples, family, divorces, and death. A film with a heart, even if it might not be beating anymore… To realize the film, the director and producer Pedri Animation aim to raise €15,000 within 30 days.
Under The Apple Tree is a stop-motion animation about two brothers: an apple farmer and a priest. These two quarreling characters are completely unaware of the comings and goings of the two smaller creatures, Aber and Crombie, worm brothers who live inside an apple. When the human story intertwines with the animal story, everything goes terribly wrong. The worms separate and reunite. Humans die and wake up with a start. Rain and thunder lash the cemetery. Is there divine intervention or basic agricultural principles at play? One thing is certain: apple cider will never taste the same again.
“Under The Apple Tree is a film full of contradictions: Bizarre yet moving. An animal story yet a human drama. Staged like a feature film, but with rhyming dialogue. It is all about the inner world, literally and figuratively.” Erik van Schaaik, writer/director:
Erik van Schaaik has been fascinated by horror stories from a young age. His fondness for thunderstorms, fluttering curtains, and long, dark corridors led him to the south of the Belgian Ardennes, where he lived in a castle and began writing Under The Apple Tree. In the style of Poe, Wilde, and Dahl; a fun little horror fable that satirically sketches the similarities between man and worm, resulting in the union of the two: the walking dead.
