Filmpeople improves user-friendliness

Filmpeople, the online platform for Dutch filmmakers, has refreshed the interface for its users and is working on improving communication with members and account holders. The organization has been maintaining platforms such as Filmvacatures.nl, Filmindustry.nl, Filmstart, and Filmnieuws.nu for years. The number of users is steadily increasing. Consequently, many structural technical adjustments have been implemented on the Filmpeople platforms over the past two years. The software on which the websites run was well prepared for the future, but as a result, much of the work took place behind the scenes. Significant improvements are now also visible on the outside. Fedor Limperg, one of the founders of Filmpeople: “Letting the programmers do their thing is enormously important, because without that, nothing is possible. But we have now reached the point where we can also tackle the visible aspects. We recently created clearer icons in the dashboard and rewrote accompanying texts and explanations. It is very simple, but it makes the platform a lot more user-friendly.” In the process, the helpdesk was also streamlined, an extensive archive of 'frequently asked questions' was compiled, and information about Filmpeople and the ideals behind the network is now available online. “During an email survey, we discovered that many filmmakers enjoy using our services and websites, but are not always aware of the full range of possibilities.” The organization aims to better communicate what Filmpeople offers as a network for people working in the Dutch film industry. The improvements to the network's websites are partly driven by the growing membership base; the number of paying members more than doubled last year, from 700 to 1,500. Limperg explains: “Thanks to this strong growth, we can now further develop the networking functions of our sites. And that is great, because our heart lies with the creative maker, and we want to facilitate and make easier the creation of beautiful, distinctive films. We want to connect filmmakers with each other as much as possible, so that they can creatively cross-pollinate each other.” For more information about Filmpeople, you can visit: http://www.filmpeople.nl/paginas/view/150

Call for Entry The Pitch @NFF 2015

Dear filmmaker, ShortsTV, the premier TV channel for short films, offers you the chance to pitch your new short film project during The Pitch competition at the 35th Netherlands Film Festival. The winner will receive a €5,000 production budget plus professional guidance from ShortsTV. Additionally, the winning pitch will be promoted on Cinecrowd.nl to secure an additional €5,000 in crowdfunding for the project. What is The Pitch? After previous editions, we have decided to make The Pitch a bit more exciting and implement some changes – including a live final opposite a jury panel of experts. You get 30 seconds to present your idea – The Pitch – for a future short film project live at the NFF. The pitches are then presented to the audience via Facebook, supplemented by a 15-second reel of previous work. For example, a short film or a showreel (which may be screened with permission). The four pitches with the most votes automatically advance to the final, while the fifth finalist is selected by the NFF. If your application is accepted, you will be invited to the Netherlands Film Festival on Thursday, September 24, to deliver your pitch directly in front of the camera, in one take. The final takes place on Monday, September 28, with a live audience and in the presence of a jury panel of experts. For the final, each participant receives 2 minutes, plus an additional demoral of 45 seconds. The winner will be announced that same evening. For detailed information, visit The Pitch page at www.eu.shorts.tv Application closing date Sunday, September 13, 2015. See you at the festival! Kind regards, SHORTS TV
