NBF

NBF networking drink on Monday 26 January: Going Green

Over the past three years, attention to sustainable production in the Dutch film sector has increased enormously. Thanks to the efforts of the Green Film Making Project, an initiative of sustainability platform Strawberry Earth, this resulted in, among other things, the first Dutch sustainable film production guide How to Green Your Film Production (so far), successful Sustainable Sessions at the Netherlands Film Festival in 2013, and awareness of the theme of 'sustainability' throughout the entire film sector. During the NBF networking event “Going Green: Sustainability in the Film and Television World,” NBF focuses on the future of the Dutch film and television landscape regarding sustainability. What steps can we take to keep this process of sustainability going? How do we ensure that this upward trend continues? Geanne van Arkel, Head of Sustainable Development at Interface, and Els Rientjes, Sustainability Manager for the Dutch film and television sector, address these questions and share their knowledge and experiences with sustainable working and production. About the speakers Interface is the global market leader in molecular flooring and driven by sustainability. Geanne van Arkel shows where Interface draws its inspiration from, and how the company managed to involve not only its employees but also its suppliers and customers in this process. Thanks to cross-sectoral collaborations, new business models have emerged at Interface that not only contribute positively to the environment and society but also ensure a positive financial result. As of January 1, 2015, Els Rientjes is dedicating herself to making the Dutch film sector more sustainable as Sustainability Manager, commissioned by the Netherlands Film Fund. Rientjes draws on years of experience in the Dutch TV and film industry, including as Creative Producer at IDTV and as Creative Producer/Producer at Fu Works. Regarding her mission as Sustainability Manager, she says: “I would like to use my passion for and knowledge of the profession to make sustainable innovation more accessible to producers.” Dinner deal Attendees of the NBF networking drinks can take advantage of a special dinner deal. Broodje Film

Camera acting course - starts February 2015

Are you between 12 and 20 years old (two groups: 12 to 15 years & 16 to 19 years) and would you like to get started acting for film/television? Then Broodje Film is the right place for you. Check the information below, visit the website, or watch the video for more information. Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=di5mwYT8rNQ Website: http://www.broodjefilm.nl Broodje Film aims to offer high-quality camera acting lessons to young people and young adults. Each course lasts ten weeks, and the first course will take place in Rotterdam. During this 10-week program, you will be introduced to various facets of the acting profession. Naturally, a lot of time is spent on learning to act—because that is, of course, what it is all about—but topics such as posture, voice usage, non-verbal communication, and professional terminology are also covered. To get a good idea of how you come across on screen, we will work with visual feedback several times. This means that we will film specific scenes or exercises during the course, which you can watch back afterwards. You will learn a tremendous amount from this. To give everything an even more realistic touch, we always use scenes from films or series during the course. In the future, Broodje Film will offer courses at various levels and possibly at different locations. Currently, we are starting with Level 1. This is a beginner's course and is accessible to everyone. From Level 2 onwards, a certain entry level will be required. To get started as effectively as possible, we have chosen to work with two age categories: Group A: 12 to 15 years and Group B: 16 to 19 years. We look forward to working with you, so hopefully see you soon! Tip: If you go to our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/broodjefilm), you will find a discount code there that gives you a €10 discount until January 31...

Workshop

Guido Franken

Workshop 'Pitch, estimate and finance'

Having an idea is great, but describing, presenting, and packaging it well to get potential financiers and partners excited is a skill in itself. In this two-day workshop, 'Pitching, Budgeting, and Financing,' by Désirée te Nuijl, you will learn how to present your idea in an easily digestible way, both in writing and verbally. Pitching No matter how many good ideas a director or producer has, they remain under the bed until a financier or client is found who enables them to realize the idea. But how do you sell an idea? It is not easy to clearly explain the story you have been mulling over for weeks or months in 8 minutes and convince clients, committee members, or a producer. During this workshop, you will learn how to summarize an idea in a clear, lucid, and concise way, and then turn it into a targeted and strong pitch. You will acquire the following skills: - What is pitching? - What needs to happen to arrive at a good, effective pitch? How do you proceed with this? - Finally, the skills are applied to prepare one's own pitch. Budgeting and financing An indispensable element of a pitch is the budget. To clarify to a fund or client the budget required to realize an audiovisual project, a rough estimate will be requested immediately. Production insight and experience are essential for creating a rough estimate for a concept or idea. By understanding the essence and broad outlines of the idea, we can quickly provide a rough budget indication that must be presented during the pitch. During the workshop, tools and skills are provided to arrive at a budget breakdown into main categories. You will learn the following skills, among others: - What is (the importance of) a global budget? What skills are needed to arrive at an accurate budget based on your idea? - How do you draw up a budget? - Finally, the skills are applied to create one's own budget. Finally, attention is also paid to the financing options for your audiovisual production. Which film and media funds are available? What other funds, institutions, or organizations exist besides the regular (film) funds? What other possibilities do you have as a creator to get your idea financed? At the end of the course, you will walk out with a concrete pitch dossier and an oral pitch, and you will know who to turn to to actually get your idea off the ground. The workshop This workshop is led by Désirée te Nuijl. Te Nuijl has decades of experience in production at various film and television companies and teaches at institutions including the Film Academy, the HKU, and various European media training programs or festivals. She previously delivered the four-day Cinesud workshop 'Production' twice with great success, receiving an average rating of 9.2. This two-day workshop 'Pitching, Budgeting, and Financing' takes place on Thursday, February 12 and Friday, February 13 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in Maastricht (exact location to be announced). The cost is €219 (non-members) and €159 (members). Students pay €150. Prices exclude VAT but include course materials, lunch, drinks, snacks, and a certificate of participation. Tip: the costs for Cinesud workshops are fully tax-deductible as business or study expenses.
