Looking for animators (cinema4d)

Dear all, to first of introduce ourselves a little bit: we are an artist-duo based in Amsterdam Zuid currently working on our fourth collaborative project (and graduation) together. The artwork in question is going to be exhibited during the yearly final show of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. An event which takes place in the week of the 30th of June until the 6th July 2014 and attracts approximately 1000-2000 visitors daily (a total estimate of 7000 people). Due to its big public exposure the exhibition is thus quite important to us and on that account we're still looking for some more professional support for one of the elements of our installation. The artwork itself consists of an outdoor-installation and an accompanying video loop. Outside, in the center of the terrain of the academy, a glass octagon will shelter a large clay sculpture, which will be continuously reshaped in a performative act (by the artists). The video work will be shown on a 103' screen inside one of the buildings. We here envision a 3D animation of a circling clay mass (in its looks coming very close to a colorful rock or meteorite), which will be accompanied by a voice over. The movement of the clay shape should incorporate a turn around its own axis but also a morphing 'as if the clay was shaped by invisible hands', if you like. We're thus - in other words - looking for a digitalization of the real clay mass that one finds outside in the glass pavilion. (For a bit more in-depth info about the concept of the work please find an additional description below). Naturally we have already made some small try-outs but would very much like to collaborate with someone with a little bit more knowledge in this particular field. We're momentarily working with Cinema4D but would be open to your suggestions and preferences. Usually we both work on our macbooks but can arrange access to some faster computers for you (if need be). If this sounds interesting to you we're very happy to get together and discuss this project a bit more profoundly. We'd be very much looking forward to join hands and create something beautiful together which will be professionally displayed and reach a large audience. Unfortunately, as this is a student-project, budgets are rather small and we cannot provide any reimbursement. Instead we hope to offer you the interesting experience of working on a unique art-project, which is absolutely off the main-stream and the chance to show your talents on an event, which meets generally great appreciation by a diverse and international audience (among those most local newspapers, gallerists from all over Europe, as well as various professional artists especially from the audiovisual sector). Other than this, we guarantee (beer! and) the mentioning of your name in all public material of our work and of course you will be free to use the finished animation later on in your own show-reel. As the days of the vernissage are coming close fast, it would great to hear from you as quick as possible. Please call or mail! (0614259635 or [email protected]) We are excited to meet up! Warm regards, Marlena&Carina ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eventually the clay will neither be fired or shaped into a certain 'product' or 'end-result' but instead persist in perpetual 'shapelessness'. Installing the clay in the most primitive form - a hill - we are especially aiming for the creation of the aura of a certain foreign body. A meteorite perhaps. To us the clay mineral is a beautiful reference to an enduring cycle of life (the fact that clay goes through different mineral stages over millions of years until it eventually becomes clay again). But then also for its biblical meaning we chose to work with clay as it cautiously poses the questions about the origin of life. The mountain of clay reconstructed in the special environment of the glass house furthermore depicts for us a metaphor for raw and original nature, which is brought 'home' into a place of culture to be shaped to our purposes. The artwork is eventually not only a portrait of our position between nature and culture but also an investigation of the role of the artist as a maker. Through the continuous performance of shaping and re-shaping the material, its inherent act of creation is deprived of a product-orientation. Making purely for the sake of making.
