International film financing workshop

PRESS RELEASE Amsterdam, December 23, 2014 INTERNATIONAL FILM FINANCE WORKSHOP at Amsterdam Film School, weekend January 31 & February 1 On 31 January and 1 February there will be an interactive workshop on international film financing at the Amsterdam Film School. Participants will have the opportunity to bring in their own projects, with renowned producer Paul Miller providing feedback. Paul Miller is an independent producer who works in the United States, Europe and the Middle East. Miller was Director of Film Financing at the Doha Film Institute, where he oversaw a €20 million financing fund. He is a producer of films such as 'A Love Song For Bobby Long' starring John Travolta and Scarlett Johansson; 'Prozac Nation' starring Chistina Ricci, Jessica Lange and Anne Heche; 'The Secret of Roan Inish', the Oscar-nominated 'Lone Star' and the Golden Globe-nominated 'Men with Guns'. His films were released by Warner and Miramax. Miller is a consultant to ACE (Ateliers du Cinéma Européen) and a member of both the Director's Guild of America and the Producer's Guild of America. The International Film Financing Workshop looks at the role of a creative producer in the entire process of development, financing and delivery. This at a time when production and distribution are undergoing major changes and finding your audience is more important than ever. Participants are expected to bring in an unproduced project. This doesn't have to be a project the filmmaker is actively working on; an idea that he is willing to share with the other participants is sufficient. Preferably already worked out into a first draft scenario or at least into a treatment, where the participant is expected to already have an idea about the director, protagonists, locations and the amount of the budget. Incidentally, scripts are not shared with the other participants. Topics covered include: logline; the elevator pitch; assembling the creative team; the choice of a director; partnerships; development budget; copyright and chain of title; packaging and agents; recording casting and cast; contracts with actors; profit expectations; box office comparables; equity, pre-sales, gap financing, loans and soft money; the business plan; return on investment; 'the waterfall'; what do you offer the financiers?; marketing and distribution plan; audience demographics and social media. The workshop costs €499. You can register via Fest Film Lab: www.filmlab.fest.pt The Amsterdam Film School is located at Herengracht 425, 1017 BR Amsterdam, tel. 020 – 370 8040, [email protected]

Art director/ Art Department is looking for work

Dear filmmakers, This year I graduated as Art Director at the Netherlands Film Academy. I am looking for work and I want to build this. In addition to a lot of practical experience at the academy, I also did some extracurricular assignments, so I know the drill. I am at home in all markets, but because I want to build up my experience slowly, my preference is to assist in an Art Department where necessary and as an Art Director for small productions. I also want to specialize more as a Decorator. I have a lot of experience with this, because I completed the painting vocational school Nimeto in Utrecht before the academy, where I learned various traditional decoration techniques. In principle, everything is welcome and if you have any questions, send me an email! - Can handle various hand tools and some large machines - Knowledge about paint, decorations, imitations - Academy knowledge about all areas in an Art Department (props setter, set dresser, art direction, production design, decorator, set design, clothing (but this is a profession in itself). - To design - Keep track of finances In possession of - Hand tools - Basic Set of bag and set of stuff (Setdresser) Available from January No driver's license (in progress) Living in Utrecht - so public transport I like to hear from you! The 3-month trajectory 'Acting for Film & TV' offers both people who already have experience and want to delve further into the profession of camera acting, and people who are just starting to play, a unique and varied curriculum. With this program we want to give people a solid 'backpack' full of knowledge and experience in three months, so that they can then independently and confidently enter the profession/work field. We can offer this basis through the intensity of this program (three months, four evenings a week) and the carefully constructed class schedule. The lessons are given by renowned teachers (including Willeke van Ammelrooy, Chris Tates, Rene van Asten and Marian Mudder) who not only have years of experience in the profession, but are still active on the set and/or on the stage. . They each teach in their own field so that all facets of camera acting are covered. There are also regular guest lecturers from the Netherlands and abroad who give masterclasses. At the end of the course, there will be a final presentation in which everything learned will be put into practice. Lucidare (Italian for polishing) organizes a unique part-time acting trajectory; the 3-month trajectory “Acting for Film & TV”. We offer both people who already have (theatre) experience and want to delve further into the camera acting profession, as well as people who are just starting to play, a unique and varied teaching program that can form the basis for a possible further career in this beautiful craft. Lucidare Acting School wants to be a breeding ground for new talent. That is why we work closely with Messercola Drama.
