How do you structure what you want to convey to the viewer? How do you construct your plot and characters? In this one-day masterclass, filmmaker Elbe Stevens (nominated for the LIRA Screenplay Award and a Rose D'Or, among others) teaches you everything about the basic ingredients of a strong screenplay. After an explanation of the key features of a good script, the focus shifts to character construction: the most important anchor for the viewer. The character A well-constructed character is one of the most important, if not the most important, elements of a screenplay. The events or plot twists may be ever so brilliant or exciting, but as long as the character the viewer is supposed to identify with is not well-developed, the viewer will never become engaged with the story. Just check the weekly reviews: as long as a viewer cannot 'empathize' or 'feel' with the characters, the film will never hit the core or the viewer. In the screenplay masterclass 'The Character', you are offered various tools to craft the most solid, three-dimensional character possible, which makes writing easier for yourself and ultimately allows you to convey your story to the viewer more easily, closely, and convincingly. Elbe Stevens Elbe Stevens (1968) is a screenwriter, director, and producer. He graduated from the St. Joost Academy in Breda and subsequently made several short films, including Anatole (2011) and Flight of Life (2013). He also co-wrote, among others, Café de Wereld (2003), Moordwijven (2007), and Penoza (2010). With the latter, he was nominated for the prestigious LIRA screenplay award, while with Café de Wereld, he competed for the internationally highly regarded Rose D'Or. This coming summer, filming will begin in the Maastricht area for the film Het Zwaard van D'Artagnan, produced by Elbe Stevens and Bijker Film & TV. There is room for a maximum of 20 participants, so be quick! Registration required via [email protected].

Register via [email protected] Creative Producer In recent years, the term 'creative producer' has become an increasingly common feature in film credits. Alongside the actual producer and the executive producer, the creative producer is of paramount importance in an audiovisual (film) production. The creative producer deals with both the creative and business aspects of filmmaking and is a key player in the entire filmmaking process. He motivates the creative and production teams while always keeping the audience in mind. Creative instinct A producer must not only be financially and communicatively skilled, but also be able to recognize and encourage quality. The creative producer is involved in the development of an idea at an early stage and influences the writing process and editing. In this regard, it is important that you, as a producer, learn to tap into your creative instincts. You are not only an advocate for the writer and director, but also for the audience. Harro van Staverden (Achtste Groepers huilen niet, Oorlogsgeheimen) has extensive (international) experience in production and will teach you in this masterclass—using compelling practical examples, among other things—exactly what the role entails, the steps a creative producer takes, the best way to proceed, and how to handle problems. During the masterclass, you will also get to work on a case study yourself. Naturally, there will also be plenty of opportunity to bombard Harro with questions. Harro van Staverden Harro van Staverden (1969) is a film and television producer at Bijker Film & TV. In addition to the internationally successful film *Achtste Groepers huilen niet*, Bijker has produced television series such as *Tien Torens Diep* and *De magische Wereld van Pardoes*. The international co-production *Oorlogsgeheimen*, again based on a book by Jacques Vriens, is currently in post-production. There is room for a maximum of 20 participants, so be quick! Registration required via [email protected].
