Scenario
The foundation of every audiovisual production consists of a well-developed storyline. But how do you tell your story? How do you structure what you want to convey to the viewer? How do you construct your plot and characters? In this one-day masterclass, filmmaker Elbe Stevens (nominated for the LIRA Screenplay Award and a Rose D'Or, among others) teaches you everything about the basic ingredients of a strong screenplay. After an explanation of the key features of a good script, the focus shifts to character construction: the most important anchor for the viewer.
The character
A well-constructed character is one of the most important, if not the most important, elements of a screenplay. The events or plot twists may be ever so brilliant or exciting, but as long as the character the viewer is supposed to identify with is not well-developed, the viewer will never become engaged with the story. Just check the weekly reviews: as long as a viewer cannot 'empathize' or 'feel' with the characters, the film will never hit the core or the viewer. In the screenplay masterclass 'The Character', you are offered various tools to craft the most solid, three-dimensional character possible, which makes writing easier for yourself and ultimately allows you to convey your story to the viewer more easily, closely, and convincingly.
