'Geld uit onverwachte hoek: een avond voor regisseurs met speciale vertoning van de documentaire Sister Rosetta Tharpe: The Godmother of Rock & Roll (2011) van prijswinnende regisseur Mick Csáky' Op maandag 25 maart vindt een speciale internationale editie van de NBF netwerkborrel plaats in de grote zaal van New Art Space Amsterdam. De NBF organiseert in samenwerking met ESoDoc (European Social Documentary) een inspirerende en informerende avond voor regisseurs over de mogelijkheden om films te maken zonder dat er omroepen en fondsen aan te pas hoeven te komen. Deze avond wordt georganiseerd als vervolg op de besloten ESoDoc-workshop die enkele dagen daarvoor bij Movies That Matter festival plaatsvindt. Vooraanstaande sprekers die ook als docent/trainer betrokken zijn bij de ESoDoc trainingssessies zullen de aanwezigen inspireren door hun bevindingen uit de workshop te delen en aansprekende voorbeelden te behandelen van projecten die met weinig middelen zijn gerealiseerd en op een bijzondere manier zijn gefinancierd. Hiernaast zal er een speciale vertoning plaatsvinden van de documentaire Sister Rosetta Tharpe: The Godmother of Rock & Roll (2011). Er zal met prijswinnende regisseur Mick Csáky (UK, 1945) gesproken worden over de bijzondere manier waarop deze film tot stand is gekomen. De gerenommeerde regisseur heeft met een zeer klein budget meerdere functies op zich genomen en kan vanuit zijn enorme ervaring als documentairemaker de aanwezige regisseurs informeren over creatieve manieren om een filmproject van de grond te krijgen met weinig middelen. De avond zal hoofdzakelijk gericht zijn op regisseurs, maar andere geïnteresseerden zijn uiteraard van harte welkom om ook aanwezig te zijn. Sprekers Hugh Purcell spent 30 years producing documentaries for British radio and then television, mostly for the BBC. His specialty was history films for which he won several awards. He then left to become a Director of Cafe productions and produced/directed several documentary series for BBC, C4, PBS, Discovery, Canal Plus (Spain and France) and The History Channel. He has taught in India, Cuba and Denmark and is now Head of Studies at EsoDoc, an EU Media training programme encouraging documentaries about human rights. Mick Csáky - since leaving the Film & Television School of The Royal College of Art in 1972 Mick Csáky has directed more than 100 documentary films and produced a further 600 productions - all for broadcast television, with some for cinema and DVD release - mostly in the areas of human stories, history, current affairs, biography, music and arts. His productions have won many international awards, including a US National Emmy and an International Emmy. In 1998 he was awarded a Fellowship by the Royal Television Society 'in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the furtherance of television.' He is Chief Executive and Creative Director of his own independent production company Antelope South Limited.
