Directors, writers, filmmakers

Presentation of the book THE NEW DIRECTORS during the DDG Seminar Utrecht, September 27, 2012. The book DE NIEUWE REGISSEURS, written by Paul Ruven and Robbert Vos, was just presented during the Dutch Directors Guild seminar at the Netherlands Film Festival. In THE NEW DIRECTORS, a remarkable new generation of Dutch directors offers a glimpse into their working methods for the first time. Although still at the beginning of their careers, some have already had films screened at prestigious film festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, and Venice. So why is it that so many new directors create such unique and, above all, original films that are recognized and appreciated all over the world? They answer this question themselves. And in doing so, they passionately explain how they work: from the initial inspiration to the final cut of the film. As an extra, each director shares their best tip via QR code in a short video. During the seminar "The Director as Creative Hub," organized by the Dutch Directors Guild, Doreen Boonekamp, Director of the Netherlands Film Fund, presented the first copy to Jonathan Elbers and Tessa Schram. Two filmmakers who have just graduated from film school and hope to become the next generation of successful directors. The interviewed directors in THE NEW DIRECTORS are Urszula Antoniak ('Nothing Personal'), David Verbeek ('RU There'), Martijn Maria Smits ('C'est déjà l'été'), Danyael Sugawara ('Alles stroomt'), Sacha Polak ('Hemel'), Arne Toonen ('Black Out'), Esther Rots ('Kan Door Huid Heen'), Bobby Boermans ('Claustrofobia'), Hanro Smitsman ('Skin'), Eugenie Jansen ('Tussenland'), Nanouk Leopold ('Guernsey'), Fow Pyng Hu ('Paradise Girls'), Jaap van Heusden ('Win Win'), Joost van Ginkel ('170 Hz'), Marc de Cloe ('De sterkste man van Nederland').
