More than 25 titles at 2nd edition indian film festival th

From October 3 to 7, the Indian Film Festival The Hague (IndianFFTH) presents more than 25 films and documentaries in four cinemas in The Hague. The program transcends classic Bollywood films, challenges debate, and presents a realistic portrayal of contemporary India in all its color and diversity. With this second edition, the growing platform for Indian cinema in the Netherlands has definitively returned to The Hague. The venues are Filmhuis Den Haag, Pathé Buitenhof, and Theater Dakota. The Humanity House is a new location this year. For five days, the festival audience can choose from a special selection of contemporary films by several independent talents from India and the diaspora. This year, the festival introduces the new Retrospective category featuring five films by Bengali filmmaker Shyam Benegal: Ankur, Bhumika, Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda, Zubeidaa, and Sardari Begum. Shyam Benegal is regarded by many as the father of independent Indian cinema. His creative oeuvre spanning over forty years includes more than twenty feature films, documentaries, and television programs. He has won the National Film Award for Best Hindi Feature Film no fewer than seven times. The Retrospective is presented in collaboration with the Embassy of India in the Netherlands and the Directorate of Film Festivals India. Education program This year, IndianFFTH is launching an educational program for pupils from Group 5 in primary education. All primary schools in The Hague have received a lesson plan regarding this. By watching the film Chillar Party and discussing it with each other, pupils learn not only about contemporary Indian culture but also about universal themes such as friendship and justice. Chillar Party is about a group of seven feisty friends who see themselves as the great heroes of their neighborhood. Together, they rise up against a local politician, and their friendship is put to the test. Chillar Party won the award for Best Youth Film in India this year. Highlights 2012 On Wednesday, October 3, IndianFFTH opens the second edition of the festival at Filmhuis Den Haag with a special opening film. This will be announced shortly. The film program will be published on the IndianFFTH website on Monday, September 17. Some highlights from the film program can be read here. All films with a trailer are available online at www.indianffth.nl. Reservations can be made at all locations starting September 17. About IndianFFTH The Indian Film Festival The Hague (IndianFFTH) is a multifaceted film event that draws attention to contemporary film art from India.
