Submit your film for the Incubate festival!

Incubate calls on you to send in your film for the Open Film program 2012. The Incubate Open Film Program will be filled with sent in films only. In 2011 we did a call for films for the Open Source Film program. There was a tremendous response to this call. The films varied from hilarious animation films to independent documentaries to visual experiments. The result was an open source film program with independent and original films that fit very well in the diverse program of Incubate. The first Incubate Film Award This year we want the festival audience to be actively involved as well, by asking for their opinion about the films screened in the Open Film blocks. All visitors of the Open Film program will get the chance to vote for the films. The film that the audience deems best will receive the very first Incubate Film Award! Everyone can submit their film. With these entries, Incubate programs interesting blocks of film and then the audience gets the chance to 'like' the films screening in the Open Film Program. The film with the most likes wins the Incubate Film Award! Participate Are you an independent filmmaker, animator, documentary maker or video artist and would you like to have your film screened as part of the Incubate 2012 official film program? Submit your film, and maybe you'll win the Incubate Film Award! Movies may not be longer than 40 minutes. All genres are welcome. Submission deadline is June 1st 2012. For more info contact our film curator Jantien Borsboom at [email protected] You can find the entry form here: www.incubate.org/film Incubate Open Film Sept 10 – 16, 2012 Creator = Jury = Audience Why are we doing this? We want to involve the Incubate audience actively in our festival. With social media like Twitter and Facebook we got the possibility to directly voice our opinion about everything, all the time. The casting of maker, curator, jury and audience is already history. With the development of the internet and social media, we all get the chance to play the part that fits us best. We can play the part of the maker and upload our videos to YouTube or Vimeo, or play the part of curator by selecting videos and creating a blog or channel. We can play the part of the jury by 'liking' a video, which may result in the video to go 'viral' and to be seen by a great amount of people. With the Incubate Open Film program, we create a similar situation within the festival.

NBF network drink May 1: free publicity&buzz marketing

On Tuesday, May 1, 2012, the monthly Network Drinks for Film and TV (NBF) will take place at SMART Project Space/LAB111 with the theme 'The Great Snowball Effect: Free Publicity and Buzz Marketing'. Due to Queen's Day, the Network Drinks will be held on Tuesday instead of the last Monday of the month. During this evening, we will discuss how you can promote yourself as a filmmaker using social media, as well as how to attract sponsors, generate free publicity, and create a buzz around your project. Among others, Sander Verdonk from LEV Pictures will speak about the marketing and promotion of the film Plan C. The other speakers will be announced shortly. In addition, as always, there will be an opportunity to have a bite to eat together and enjoy drinks with other film and TV professionals during the evening. Program content During our previous Network Drinks, it became clear that generating publicity is a key link in promotion on online platforms and crowdfunding. Social media offers everyone the chance to advertise online, but how can you use it strategically to draw attention to your project and yourself as a creator? In financially difficult times and for low-budget productions, it helps to generate as much (free) publicity as possible for your project and yourself as a filmmaker. Various recent examples have shown that projects around which a buzz has been created receive a great deal of attention. In this way, free publicity can create a snowball effect, allowing you to attract additional sponsors or interest an audience even before the project is completed. Free publicity and buzz marketing can therefore be a valuable addition to give your project a flying start and to increase attention for the screening and distribution of your film. But in the volatile online world, is it even possible to say what constitutes successful tactics, and doesn't a large part also depend on chance and luck? Speakers (list is still being updated) Sander Verdonk – Verdonk is Executive Producer at LEV Pictures (producer of Anton Corbijn, Inside Out, and Plan C, among others). As a producer, Sander used many striking marketing strategies for Plan C to promote the project. He is coming to talk about the tactics used, but also where there was still room for improvement. The other speakers will be announced soon, keep an eye on the website! Main competition cannes for lemming production in the fo

IN THE FOG (IM NEBEL), the new feature film by Sergei Loznitsa, is competing for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival (May 16-27, 2012). During the festival's press conference today, it was announced that the film will have its world premiere at the Palais des Festivals. The film is a co-production of ma.ja.de (Germany), Lemming Film (Netherlands), Rija Film (Latvia), Belarusfilm (Belarus), and GP Cinema Company (Russia). IN THE FOG is based on the book of the same name by the Belarusian writer and social activist Vasil Bykov (1924-2003). It is set in the western border region of the USSR, 1942. The local partisans are fiercely resisting the German occupation in the region. Two partisans are ordered to assassinate a suspected collaborator, Sushenya. The innocent Sushenya desperately tries to prove his innocence but is taken to a forest by the partisans. One-on-one with his enemies, deep in the dark forest, he is forced to make a moral decision under immoral circumstances. Sergei Loznitsa's feature film debut MY JOY was also selected for the main competition of the Cannes Film Festival in 2010 and was released in the Netherlands by EYE Film in the summer of 2011. IN THE FOG was made with the support of the Netherlands Film Fund. Match Factory handles worldwide sales, and the film is being released in the Netherlands by Contact Film. It was previously announced that director Marco van Geffen has been selected for the prestigious Cannes l'Atelier 2012 with the Lemming project IN JOUW NAAM.
