Copyright online film: Monday at NBF network drink!

This coming Monday, November 28, the Film and TV Network Drinks (NBF) will take place, with the theme 'Film online: royalty-free or not?'. Featuring a special presentation by Wendy Bernfeld, a panel discussion, and, of course, plenty of opportunity to network with TV, film, and new media professionals. Program At the previous edition of the NBF networking drinks, the panelists extensively discussed the internet as an essential platform for visual material. The internet indeed offers creators unlimited possibilities, provided they are creative enough and know how to seize opportunities. However, there is another side to this 'walhalla' that professionals have to deal with: the rights and risks associated with visual material posted online. How are copyrights regulated on the internet, is it possible to protect them, and is this even desirable? At this NBF networking event, Wendy Bernfeld will give a short presentation on recent trends in the digital media landscape. She will pay specific attention to several current transmedia approaches, new VOD/new media business models, and related rights issues. She will also discuss how to handle conflicts with clients (broadcasters and distributors) regarding copyright. After the presentation, the following questions will be discussed further with the panelists: how are copyrights regulated on the internet, is it possible to protect them, and is this desirable at all? Please note: the language of instruction is English. Panel members (subject to change): Wendy Bernfeld - Rights Stuff (more information) Jetse Sprey - VWS Lawyers (more information) Another speaker is being added. Program Weesperzijde Film Festival Sat. November 26

Second edition of the Weesperzijde Film Festival The Weesperzijde is bursting with film talent. The second edition of the Weesperzijde Film Festival will be organized at the Kohnstamm House on Saturday, November 26. The program includes work by Pieter Verhoeff, Habbekrats (the proud winner of a Golden Calf for Best Actor Nasrdin Dchar at the Golden Film Rabat), and a preview of the new feature film Doodslag by Pieter Kuijpers, starring Theo Maassen. Once again, the Weesperzijde Film Festival has little cinematic gems on offer, such as Bokemei, a film by Nina Pieters about the carefree lifestyle of a Ghanaian cleaner living in Amsterdam who has been cleaning this company's toilets there for twenty years. Or the beautiful miniature evocation by Rimko Haanstra about the day the Giro d'Italia passed through the Weesperzijdestrook. For the youth, there is a preview of a new episode of Dr. Cheesy, and Pieter Verhoeff presents his latest youth series. And as if that weren't enough, at this festival you can get acquainted with a new Amsterdam phenomenon: Manus and Janus, Superheroes! Audiovisual artists such as Yarre Stooker will liven up the festival with their latest installations. New to the festival is that students from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences will also be showing their work to the neighborhood! The festival is organized in collaboration with the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Everyone is warmly welcome! Admission is free. Kohnstamhuis (the former tax office building), Wibautstraat 4 Saturday, November 26 from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM http://www.weesperzijdestrook.nl/festival/filmfestival_2011/filmfestival2011.htm
