IDTV stops making feature films
As of December 1, IDTV will focus exclusively on producing television programs, documentaries, events, and drama series. The producer is returning to its roots and, in doing so, is saying goodbye to its film division. Film producer Frans van Gestel will remain involved in the development and production of drama series at IDTV for the coming year.
Shula Rijxman, CEO IDTV: 'In recent years, wonderful films have been made at IDTV. Films that were well-attended, won many awards, and of which we are incredibly proud. To produce feature films today at the level we have done, significant investments must be made. Making these kinds of investments means taking risks. Given the current market, you focus on what you are good at and what entails the least risk. I am very pleased that Frans van Gestel, alongside Idse Grotenhuis, Head of Drama, will remain involved with IDTV and that we can continue to draw on his expertise for the time being. That gives me the confidence that we can continue to produce our drama series with the same high quality.'
Frans van Gestel, Producer at IDTV Film: 'After four successful years at IDTV Film, during which we won the Golden Calf for Best Film for the last two consecutive years, it was time to stand on our own two feet again and chart an independent course. I understand that, given the current market conditions, IDTV is returning to its core business. I will be happy to continue advising them within the drama department.'
