NL Composer wins Transatlantyk Film Competition

On August 12, 26-year-old composer Matthijs Kieboom won the film music competition of the 'Transatlantyk International Film & Music Festival' in Poznan, Poland. The eight-day festival and competition were founded by Academy Award-winning composer Jan AP Kaczmarek. Hundreds of composers from around the world participated in the competition, in which each participant had to provide an original composition for two designated films. Ultimately, ten finalists were selected who presented their films to a professional jury during the festival in Poznan. The winner was announced during the closing gala ceremony. Film composer Matthijs Kieboom won the competition with his two compositions and received $20,000 in prize money. Second place was shared by the Greek/Polish Natali Drosou and the American Garth Neustadter. Third place went to the Polish/French Krzysztof A. Janczak. For the young composer from Dordrecht, this prize comes at a perfect time. Together with established film composer Martijn Schimmer, he has started a new company.
