Masterclass Documentary Roy Dames POSTPONED!!!

The previously posted masterclass documentary by Roy Dames has been moved to Wednesday September 21, 2011, at a location to be determined in Rotterdam! "Masterclass Documentary by Roy Dames, winner of the Sound and Vision Award 2010, culture category" The interest group for the film, audiovisual and multimedia sector in Rotterdam, Het Initiatief, is organizing a Masterclass Documentary. Anyone who is already working, or has the ambition to work in the Rotterdam audiovisual sector, can register for this masterclass via [email protected]. (Registration is required!!!) The masterclass will take place on Wednesday 21 September 2011, led by documentary maker Roy Dames. Based on his own work, he discusses how to make a documentary, what kind of obstacles you can expect and how to deal with them. The program will broadly consist of an introduction, choice of subject, working method and moral dilemmas during filming. During a presentation lasting approximately 2.5 hours, Roy Dames will try to convey his passion and enthusiasm for the profession to the participants and motivate them to convert their creative thoughts into action. Short Biography Roy Dames Born in Heemskerk. He has been working as a producer of TV documentaries since 1986 and as a producer/director since 1993. He produced and made many TV documentaries (series) about social and societal issues from a "human interest" approach. For his documentaries he tries to show what is normally not shown. His films have a shooting period of many years, which means that a bond of trust develops between Dames and his characters. He collaborates with almost all Dutch public broadcasters and the commercial channels SBS6, Net 5 and foreign channels such as BBC, SDR (Germany), ORF (Austrian TV). Films by Dames include 'Ik ben Mohammed' (2005, in collaboration with the NPS, about young Moroccan men in Rotterdam, nominated for the Golden Calf at the Netherlands Film Festival 2005), 'Ruud and Ria, until death do us part' (2002, in collaboration with the NPS) and 'Meiden van de Keileweg' (1999, in collaboration with Net 5, series about the life of street prostitutes in Rotterdam). With his film 'Foute Vrienden' he won the Image and Sound Award 2010, category culture. Presenting in front of the Camera is much more than just reading a text. During the TV Presentation for the Camera 1 course you will become familiar with the camera and you will become acquainted with different presentation styles. This course is given by professionals who have already earned their spurs in the presentation profession, both for radio and TV. All presentations are recorded on your own DVD. During this course, the basic principles of presenting are covered in various forms of programming, such as: news, interviews, commercials, presentation for children and as a reporter. During the different presentation forms and styles you gradually become more and more familiar with the camera. In addition, text analysis, speech therapy aspects are discussed and, of course, attention is paid to clothing, make-up and directing.

Within this vocational training you learn to tell a visual story in a creative way and with dramaturgical insight. A director has final artistic responsibility for a media production. Directing is not so much capturing reality as shaping your view and vision of that reality. This vocational training responds to the talent and creativity of the individual student, so that individuality as a film and television maker can be discovered and developed. A director must be able to convey his/her passion to others: producer, crew & cast, audience. In this training, theoretical blocks and practical and technical exercises also deal with the tasks and responsibilities of a director in a film process.

CAMERA PROFESSIONAL training

If you are visually oriented and want to learn how to work professionally with the camera, the Vocational Training Camera is for you. You learn to tell a story with the camera by making skilful use of design and technique. A cameraman/woman is ultimately responsible for the image in a media production. Within the course, the content of images, visual language and storytelling with the camera is central. From a theoretical framework, which is broadened and deepened during the course, camera technique, camera and program styles and recording procedures are discussed. You learn to articulate style and vision with regard to recording and ultimately translate it into visual language. In addition, attention is paid to functioning as a self-directing cameraman and working under direction.
