Making animation films in France
Creative holiday week
Making animated films in France
July 31 - August 6, 2011
€ 575 incl. accommodation (excl. VAT)
The workshop
In the village of Acquet in the northern French province of Picardy, you can fully immerse yourself in making animated films, interspersed with a walk, a bike ride, or a dip in the sea.
It doesn't matter whether you come as a professional artist or a complete novice. You don't need to be good at drawing, nor do you need any computer knowledge. You can choose to try out various techniques, or perhaps you have an idea for a film that you can complete entirely during the week. The animation workshop provides insight into animation film techniques and offers you a solid foundation if you want to continue independently. We work with digital cameras and computers to capture and edit the films, but otherwise, you do everything by hand: cutting, pasting, drawing, painting, sculpting, building—whatever technique or material you choose yourself.
The cut-out technique is the fastest and most practical way to animate. It means creating an animation using drawings and cut-out pieces of drawings. In the workshop, attention is paid to the 'story' (however abstract that may be): how to write a story, how to build scenes, which camera techniques to use, and how to handle voices, sound, and music during editing. If you would like to bring your own equipment, please do! Collaboration is possible but not required (depending on the number of participants and the amount of equipment). The films will be edited under supervision. Everyone will receive a DVD containing all the films made during this week.
The surroundings can be very inspiring to use images from in your film. Making an animated film is just incredibly fun!
