Request market data for the Dutch AV sector

URGENT REQUEST FOR MARKET DATA OF THE NETHERLANDS AV SECTOR Amsterdam, January 24, 2011 Dear valued customer, In late September 2010, we received a copy of the urgent letter to the Ministry signed by facilities and post-production companies and freelancers regarding the deteriorating climate for (post-)production in the Netherlands. The revenue of many companies is declining due to the influence of tax schemes and tax shelters in neighboring countries. This is partly because the absence of tax shelters and tax schemes for the audiovisual sector makes the Netherlands less attractive for international productions; and partly because Dutch productions are also increasingly (forced to) make use of tax shelters abroad. The high spending obligations associated with this contribute to (post-)production being outsourced to other countries more frequently. The Film Fund and the Dutch Association of Feature Film Producers are working on proposals to stimulate businesses and activity in the Dutch audiovisual sector with the aim of reversing the trend outlined above and strengthening the international competitive position of the Netherlands. To this end, it is of great importance to have sector-wide revenue growth, business activity, and employment. Therefore, we ask for your cooperation and request that you complete the short market survey on our website no later than Monday, January 31. Your data will be treated with the utmost confidentiality and will not be publicly distributed. For more information, please contact Mr. Koji Nelissen of the Film Fund (020-5788460). We thank you in advance for your efforts, Kind regards, Doreen Boonekamp Director/Executive Director Netherlands Film Fund Jan Luykenstraat 2 1071 CM Amsterdam - NL Tel +31 (0)20 5707676 www.filmfonds.nl CLICK HERE http://www.filmfonds.nl/marktonderzoek_toeleveranciers_av_industrie

SURINAME: old images - new commentary

CINEBLEND, the monthly evening of SAVAN (Dutch Foundation for Audiovisual Anthropology) with dinner, film, and debate, has the following theme on Tuesday, February 1: OLD IMAGES - NEW COMMENTARY. Part 1: SURINAME The difficult relationship between the Netherlands and the former colonies in the West Indies is partly a result of decades of biased perceptions. These perceptions were expressed in colonial film footage. Following archiving projects by the Tropenmuseum and the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, among others, Cineblend is organizing a two-part series on colonial images of Suriname and the Netherlands Antilles, and is examining the film material in a new, contemporary way. Tonight, the focus is on Suriname. How do (young) Surinamese artists and scholars view the colonial images of their country? In what context should we place Dutch film footage, and how has that material shaped perceptions? Is it important for the identity and history of Surinamese people? Whose heritage is it? The guests are: Gikkels, rapper and co-founder of the political youth party Bijlmer Style; Patricia Kaersenhout, visual artist; and Alex van Stipriaan, curator at the Tropenmuseum and professor of Caribbean history at Erasmus University Rotterdam. The discussion moderator is Dr. Aspha Bijnaar, who studied sociology in Suriname and the Netherlands and is affiliated with Ninsee (the National Institute for the Dutch Slavery Past and Heritage). We look forward to seeing you at this inspiring evening! Location: Soeterijn Café, Tropentheater Amsterdam Time: 19:30. Free entry. No reservation required.
