After six years of work, Mariscal continued to refine his first feature-length animated film, Chico y Rita, right up until the very last moment. The film is being screened for the first time at a major European festival during the HAFF. The film is competing in the feature film competition. Leiden horror film Meating Penny premieres

Rockabilly zombie flick 'Meating Penny' On October 29, the short horror film Meating Penny will premiere for the public and the press during the horror film program of the Leiden Film Festival at the LVC, the center of pop culture for Leiden and the surrounding area. The one and only Leiden horror film Meating Penny was conceived, filmed, and produced within four months and received considerable attention from the Leiden media. This 'no budget' horror film is the product of a large group of volunteers, companies, and sponsors that grew steadily along the way. The cast and crew consist largely of Leiden residents, but people from all parts of the country joined the ranks. Through close collaboration, great dedication, and the enthusiasm of all these people, the project ultimately succeeded, and Meating Penny became the first and only true Leiden horror film. Great interest The streets of Leiden witnessed bloody scenes surrounded by a film crew this summer, which often attracted quite a crowd. The local media did not let this go unreported, and Meating Penny has managed to pique the city's curiosity. The premiere, complete with a Halloween Party, DJs, and bands, is expected to draw a large crowd. Extra screenings have been scheduled at the Leiden Film Festival to allow all visitors to see the film. Screenings The film Meating Penny hopes for interest from the press, media, and film festivals and would like to give everyone the opportunity to attend the film premiere. If you are interested, we would appreciate it if you register in advance so that the number of seats can be taken into account.

Special program HAFF: Preview Geesink Restored

More than fifty years ago, our country had a professional film studio specializing in puppet films: the Geesink Studio of Joop Geesink, known to the general public as the creator of Loeki the Lion. He is one of the great animation pioneers of the Netherlands, and it is not without reason that the HAFF has named the prize for the Commissioned Film Competition after this grandmaster. The Geesink Studio produced commercials for markets in Europe, but also far beyond in Asia, South and North America. Between the 1940s and 1970s, this studio made hundreds of puppet films. Puppet films that stand out due to professional animation techniques, colorful sets, cheerful characters, and funny stories. This large collection is housed in the archive of the EYE Film Institute Netherlands, and this heritage is currently being secured for the future as part of the conservation project Images for the Future. Especially for HAFF, EYE lifts the veil on preservation in the special program Geesink Restored, featuring no fewer than 62 commercials for, among others, Campari, the British beer brand Mackeson, and Maggi. Geesink Restored can be seen at the HAFF in 2 programs. Friday, November 5 - Filmtheater 't Hoogt 14:30 Geesink Restored 1; 16:30 Geesink Restored 2. Saturday, November 6, Filmtheater 't Hoogt, 10:30 AM Geesink Restored 1. Sunday, November 7, Filmtheater 't Hoogt, 10:30 AM Geesink Restored 2. Leenke Ripmeester is responsible for making the collection accessible at EYE. She explains her work at the HAFF.
