We are in Cuba, 1948. A talented pianist and songwriter and an extremely charming singer pursue their dreams, and each other. From Havana to New York, Las Vegas, and vice versa. Chico y Rita is an epic of love and heartbreak in the tradition of the Spanish ballad, the bolero. Javier Mariscal, the successful Spanish artist, comic book illustrator, and designer, is directing alongside Oscar winner Fernando Trueba (Belle Epoque) and Mariscal's younger brother Tono Errando. Javier Mariscal designs furniture, interiors, and tableware, among other things, and is not to be forgotten as the designer of the poster for the Holland Animation Film Festival in 1992 and part of the 2004 poster. Mariscal will be present at the festival. Longtime friends Mariscal and Trueba share a passion for the jazz music and culture of Cuba. This basement is located beneath an old commercial building from the early 20th century. It is dry, warm, equipped with electricity and (sparse) lighting, and above all, very spooky. The basement is approximately 300 square meters and highly suitable as a photo or film location. Music video, fashion shoot, or band photo—as long as it is legal—you can do whatever you want here. During the rental period, the space is yours, so there are no unwanted strangers. The basement can also be locked from the inside. The price is 50 euros per 2-hour block. Ciné Privé is a film festival held at home and on location that is taking place for the fourth time in 2011. For this, Circa is looking for promising filmmakers. It involves four days where 'film' is explored in all its facets and where the audience can enjoy a selection of well-known and lesser-known short and feature films, documentaries, animated films, and much more. Ciné Privé 2011 takes place at a unique and exotic location on the edge of Ghent's nineteenth-century belt: the greenhouses of the University Botanic Garden. Film screenings are held in the Victoria Greenhouse, student residences in and around the Faculty of Science, and the buildings of the Teacher Training College on KL Ledeganckstraat, among others.
