Frank Klein new partner N279 Entertainment

Frank Klein new partner in N279 Entertainment Young directors adapt Tall Tales into a film Gimmick! As of January 2011, Frank Klein, who has been working in the film industry as a budget controller for years, will become co-owner of N279 Entertainment, owned by Els Vandevorst and Martin Koolhoven. They previously collaborated on the production of the successful film *Oorlogswinter*. Els Vandevorst: The idea to adapt Gimmick! and produce the film together came from Frank Klein. During this collaboration, the idea arose to run N279 as a trio. Frank complements our expertise well. There is a clear vision regarding the strategy and future plans. Vincent Bal's *Het Zigzagkind*, a production by Bos Bros and N279, is the first film co-produced by N279 Entertainment. Young directors Teddy Cherim and Kees van Nieuwkerk are set to adapt Joost Zwagerman's bestseller Gimmick! for the screen. Producer N279 Entertainment acquired the rights to this key novel about the Amsterdam art scene in the turbulent 1980s a few months ago. Because they envisioned a contemporary, fresh adaptation, they settled on Cherim and Van Nieuwkerk, who recently made a tumultuous debut with the feature film Sterke Verhalen. The two have already had their first meeting with screenwriter Christophe Dirickx (De Helaasheid der Dingen). The shoot will start early next year. Kees van Nieuwkerk: It is a wonderful book, which after twenty years is just as fresh as when it was written. That is also because it is a moving story about a lost love; a theme that is timeless. We are roughly the same age as the characters in the novel and Joost Zwagerman was when he wrote the book. This can only become a magnificent film. Teddy Cherim: When I read the book, I immediately felt that it was actually about us. The period really appeals to me. The zeitgeist, the music, clothing, art, drugs, and language are screaming to be captured on film by us. I'm fucking looking forward to it. Animated film IN OTHER WORDS as a prelude to TIRZA

ANIMATED FILM IN OTHER WORDS AS PRE-FILM TO TIRZA IN CINEMAS FROM SEPTEMBER 30 The short animated film IN OTHER WORDS by Joost Bakker will be shown in a number of cinemas starting September 30 as a short film preceding TIRZA by Rudolf van den Berg (selected as the Dutch entry for the Oscar). This concerns the following cinemas: Pathé De Munt Amsterdam, Pathé Tuschinski Amsterdam, Pathé Buitenhof The Hague, Pathé De Kuip Rotterdam, Pathé Eindhoven, Pathé Groningen, Pathé Rembrandt Arnhem, Pathé Zaandam, Pathé Maastricht, MustSee Breda, MustSee Delft and MustSee Tilburg. The film is already screening at the 30th Netherlands Film Festival, where it is competing for the Golden Calf for Short Film. An image from Michelangelo Antonioni's Deserto Rosso, in which a man and a woman bend over a billowing newspaper, inspired the maker. As well as the musical piece Secreto by the Catalan composer Federico Mompou, which can be heard in its entirety in the film and brings with it a timeless, calm atmosphere. Just like Antonioni, Joost Bakker uses the setting to portray the state of mind of his characters. Joost Bakker's animations are 'living' drawings executed with charcoal and pencil using a computer. The animations have the spontaneity of a first sketch. The simplicity with which he creates the human extras is moving. In the film, a newspaper article seems to bring a man and a woman closer together. Joost Bakker (1977) studied at the Arnhem School of Arts and the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam. He received a scholarship for the NIAF (2007–2009). For his film LAAGTEVREZERS (2004), he received the René Coelho Prize Montevideo. His work is on display in various museums and galleries in the Netherlands and abroad. IN OTHER WORDS was produced by Hanneke Stark (STARK film) and was made with the support of the Netherlands Film Fund and Pathé. Running time: 2'30 For more information, images, and/or interview requests, please contact STARK film Hanneke Stark, tel: 0164 237541 / 06 223 03 113 Email: [email protected]
