Identity of Moluccan youth in the Netherlands On April 25, 1950, the Republic of South Moluccas (RMS) was proclaimed on Ambon. Now, in 2010, 60 years later, there is still no independent republic. In the meantime, a new generation of Moluccans has grown up in the Netherlands or is still growing up there. On this Cineblend evening, the second and third generations will have their say. How do they view the history of their parents and grandparents? Do they still identify with the longing of the older generation? How do they describe their own identity, and where does the strong connection to Melanesian identity stem from? During this evening, various excerpts will be screened from films in which Moluccan history, the desire to return, and changing identity in the Netherlands take center stage. It is with a heavy heart that I am selling this professional HDV camera. It has served me faithfully for 2 years, although I must say that it has not been used much. Purchased at Vocas in Hilversum, it has always been serviced there. As a cameraman, I originally bought it for a travel documentary, and since then the camera and I have made a number of wonderful trips together. Other than that, it has been used very little. Along with the camera, I also have a Porta Brace rain cover that was made specifically for this camera. One of the films I shot with the camera takes place entirely in Costa Rica. During the preparations, I envisioned a very rainy country with a lot of rainforest. So I bought a rain cover. In the 3 months we stayed there, it rained perhaps twice, and there was plenty of room to take shelter. The rain cover wasn't used there and therefore sat in my camera bag for 2 years without getting to work in the rain for a single day. Actually, quite a waste ;) For a short documentary in a swimming pool in Utrecht, I purchased an Ewa Marine underwater housing. Consequently, it has only been used during about six dives in the pool. This underwater case is specifically for the Canon xh-a1 and will therefore not fit other cameras! With the camera, I have all original accessories, such as the remote control, AV and component cables, the original Canon battery charger and battery, and the manual. Additionally, I have a second charger (with a 12V car connection!) and two extra batteries. In total, enough power to film for about two full days. Of course, here is a list of specifications (from Canon). - 1/3'' 1.67 MP 3CCD for HDV1080i - Lens with 20x optical zoom and OIS - Instant AF and Focus Assist - DIGIC DV II for HD - Compact design - Rings for focus, zoom, and aperture - Widescreen LCD and EVF - Full image control - Cinema gamma and user settings - Advanced accessory shoe and XLR audio Full Image Control is listed. I spent a long time searching for the settings I liked best and that I felt would allow me to get the most out of the camera. Last year the Shadow Festival was declared dead, but since then there has been a small revival in a squat. Mainly old, well-known films are being screened. The Shadow Festival was founded 10 years ago by film lecturer Stefan Majakowski out of dissatisfaction with the 'commercial' and large-scale IDFA. Following criticism of his policies and the unorthodox treatment of staff, funding was discontinued in 2009. (see article by former staff member: http://fedorsendak.wordpress.com/2009/12/17/in-memoriam-shadow-festival-1999-2009/ ) A new start The Shadow Festival is going ahead after all, without subsidies, in the Schijnheilig squat. The organization was hastily put together on an ad hoc basis; the first contact between Shadow and the Schijnheilig squat was established a week before the first film was screened, and five days before the start, the center was still threatened with eviction. Schijnheilig handled the entire organization for this edition; Stefan Majakowski was only involved in the programming. "Although the festival features films whose existence was already known, it did manage to put together a program in a week and have a screening room open for seven days where people can watch beautiful documentaries on the big screen with free admission," said one of the organizers. The films are introduced and there are long post-screening discussions, as we have come to expect from previous editions. ======= SHADOW FESTIVAL PROGRAMME Admission is always free.
