Elle van Rijn en Marion Pauw 12th INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL FILM BY THE SEA vrijdag 10 t/m zondag 19 september 2010, Vlissingen Film by the Sea organiseert dit jaar weer diverse workshops en cursussen op het gebied van film en literatuur. De activiteiten van dit jaar bestaan uit een Filmcollege, een Masterclass Scenario en een Schrijfworkshop. Vanaf vandaag, 1 september, staat het hele Film by the Sea programma online op www.filmbythesea.nl. De kaartverkoop is inmiddels gestart. Filmcollege Op zaterdag 11 en zondag 12 september vindt het Filmcollege plaats met vier lectures en drie filmvoorstellingen. De Film- en Literatuurcompetitie staat centraal bij dit college. Alle elf de competitiefilms worden besproken en drie competitiefilms worden vertoond. De focus in het college ligt op het scenario. Hoe wordt een boek de basis van een film? Hoe wordt een boek omgeschreven naar scenario? Hoe gaat men om met de verschillende eigenschappen van het medium? De beeldroman neemt een aparte plaats in binnen het genre van de boekverfilming. Verfilmingen van graphic novels nemen de laatste jaren een enorme vlucht. Wat is de reden daarvan? En hoe verschillen deze verfilmingen van die van 'gewone' boeken? Ook wordt ingegaan op het oeuvre van Lifetime Achievement Award-winnaar Jean-Claude Carriere. Het college wordt dit jaar gegeven door twee filmdocenten: Harry Peters en Jan Salden, en wordt ondersteund met de vertoning van filmfragmenten van de elf geselecteerde competitiefilms van de Film- en Literatuurcompetitie van Film by the Sea. Thrillerschrijfsters Elle van Rijn en Marion Pauw, winnares van de Gouden Strop 2009, laten tijdens de Schrijfworkshop van Film by the Sea zien hoe je een thriller moet schrijven. Met jarenlange ervaring in schrijversland en een indrukwekkende lijst thrillers op hun naam zijn zij bij uitstek de personen om te tonen hoe je tot een plot kunt komen waar de rillingen van over je rug lopen. KORT! is celebrating its tenth anniversary. On Saturday, September 25, the NTR will broadcast The Long Night of the Short Film live. Hosted by Isolde Hallensleben, nearly nine hours will be dedicated to the popularity and diversity of the short film: from YouTube videos and catchy virals to dance films, and from Microfilms to One Take films. Isolde will discuss this with a number of guests, including director Martin Koolhoven, who will show their favorite films. Via www.dekortefilm.nl, Twitter, and Facebook, viewers have an important say in shaping the evening. They are asked to submit their own films—including a version of Koolhoven's feature film *Oorlogswinter in 60 secondes*—and to vote for their favorite films. The two-hour live program is followed at approximately 1:15 AM by a selection of short films until 8:00 AM the following morning. Some program items The Long Night of the Short Film: Done in 60 seconds: War Winter Viewers are asked to reduce Martin Koolhoven's feature film *Oorlogswinter* to a 60-second short film. The best entries will be screened in *De lange nacht van de korte film* and accompanied by commentary from Koolhoven himself. One Take Competition Viewers can also make films themselves with their mobile phones. These short mobile videos of a maximum of two minutes must be recorded in one take. Upload Cinema Upload Cinema has compiled a list of 100 short YouTube films especially for this evening. Viewers can vote starting Friday, September 3, and the ten films with the most votes will be shown on television. The very best of KORT! 10 Years of KORT! stands for 100 short films of 10 minutes. The last ten of these one hundred KORT! films will premiere at the upcoming Netherlands Film Festival. A professional jury will select the ten best KORT! films from these 100. These will be broadcast during The Long Night of the Short Film between 2:00 and 4:00 AM and will be available to watch online until 10:00 AM the following morning. 10 years SHORT! The NTR celebrates 10 years of KORT! in the last week of September. The annual program of 10 short films of 10 minutes each turns ten this year, and this is being celebrated – alongside The Long Night of the Short Film – with a festive premiere at the Netherlands Film Festival and the launch of a DVD box set containing all 100 films made in ten years of KORT!

The documentary Cemetery State will be screened at De Brakke Grond in Amsterdam on Saturday, September 11 at 8:30 PM and Sunday, September 12 at 2:00 PM! In the documentary Cemetary State, Filip De Boeck invites you on a bewildering visit to Kintambo, one of the oldest and largest cemeteries in Kinshasa. Although the cemetery was officially closed twenty years ago, people from the surrounding slum continue to bury their dead there. Young people and children have taken over the management of death. The dead are like toys in their hands; the coffin is a football they eagerly pounce on. Cemetary State observes how young gravediggers, singers, and drummers use their funeral rituals as an alternative platform to challenge their parents and the establishment.
